Garrett County Woman Sentenced For Meth Distribution
Melissa Ann Wilson of Oakland entered a guilty plea to possession with intent to distribute Methamphetamine. In July, Garrett County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Wilson when they discovered several small bags of methamphetamine and communications where Wilson discussed the sale of the drug. Wilson was given the maximum five-year sentence, based on a previous conviction for the same charge.
Morrisey Joins President Trump for Executive Order
West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey traveled to Washington D.C. Wednesday to sit in on President Donald Trump’s signing of an executive order that bans transgender athletes from competing in women’s and girls’ sports. Trump signed the executive order, which is titled “Keep Men Out of Women’s Sports,” on National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The order will give federal agencies the ability to ensure that federally funded entities abide by Title IX, which interprets sex as the gender athletes were assigned at birth. 100,000 Eggs Stolen in Greencastle
Someone has stolen about 100,000 eggs from a distribution trailer in south-central Pennsylvania as rising egg prices and shortages continue to worry U.S. consumers. The eggs were taken from the trailer at Pete & Gerry's Organics in Greencastle at 8:40 p.m. Saturday, according to Pennsylvania State Police. Police estimate their value at $40,000.
Mayor Believes Parking Issues Won’t Hinder Shoppers
Cumberland’s mayor is convinced that current issues and attitudes around parking in the downtown can be overcome. Mayor Ray Morriss said he knows that the shops in the downtown are unique and carry high-quality items that can’t be found at big-box retailers. Because of that, he says shoppers will make the extra effort to shop at the specialty stores… “I believe in our restaurants, I believe in our stores. And I want them to believe in themselves also. And with our new downtown Baltimore Street, people will come and they will spend their money.”
Pirates Sign Outfielder Tommy Pham
The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed outfielder Tommy Pham to a one year deal. Pham is a veteran outfielder who will turn 37 in March. His best years were with the Cardinals. Last season Pham batted .254 playing with two different teams.

CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED
On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on John Hamilton Jr. The summons was issued in connection with a fraud investigation that was initiated on January 24, 2025 when police responded to a business on Greene Street for fraudulent checks. The staff reported that John Hamilton Jr. cashed one check on August 22, 2024 and two checks on September 13, 2024. The business later discovered that the checks were fraudulent. After further investigation, police filed for charges against Hamilton at the District Court of Allegany County. Hamilton signed for his copy of the summons…
Mayor Talks Underpass On WCBC
The Cumberland Mayor and City Council voted Tuesday to close the Queen City Underpass at Baltimore Street indefinitely. While it is closed, the City will focus on cleaning, disinfection, and needed maintenance. Mayor Ray Morriss told WCBC Wednesday morning in addition to the cleanliness of the underpass, the City will examine how it is holding up… “There are some issues in that we’re noticing with the underpass. You know, it’s been there for quite a while. There’s some issues with it structurally with the underpass that we need to clarify.”
McKay Says Cooperation Best For Immigration Issues
Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown recently issued guidance on how Maryland law enforcement may interact with federal immigration authorities. The guidance notes federal law cannot compel state and local officials to enforce immigration laws.
