Senior Benefit Card For Farmers Markets

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program offers a one-time, annual benefit of $50 that low-income seniors 60 years and older can use between July and November to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey directly from farmers at farmers markets and farm stands across the state. Recipients will receive a card with an embedded QR code that they can use to pay for these items with participating farmers at their local farmers market. To apply, visit mda.maryland.gov.

MD State Highway Administration Closes MD 68 Bridge

Starting Wednesday, May 21, the Maryland State Highway Administration crews will close and temporarily detour the MD 68 Bridge, Clean Spring Road near Williamsport in Washington County.  Debris accumulation under the structure due to last week’s storm will be removed. A local detour will be in place Wednesdays through Fridays from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day, weather permitting. SHA expects to have all the debris under the bridge cleared in approximately two weeks.

Heritage Area Funding Bill Receives Veto

Charges Filed in Case of Fan Falling at PNC Park

A 21 year old man from McKeesport, PA has been charged with supplying alcohol to the underage man who fell from the stands at PNC Park weeks ago.  Ethan Kirkwood faces two misdemeanor counts of furnishing alcohol to a person under the age of 21.

Allegany County Schools Closed Wednesday

Due to the forecasted weather and current conditions throughout the county, including saturated areas and multiple road closures, the Department of Emergency Services is recommending a countywide closure of Allegany County Public Schools for tomorrow. Taking their advisement, all Allegany County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Virtual Synchronous learning will take place for students via the Schoology platform with login hours at 8:30 am for elementary and 8:00 am for middle and high. CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED

On Monday, May 19, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Gordon Whitfield.  The summons was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on May 9, 2025 at approximately 10:22 AM when police responded to Virginia Avenue at W. Industrial Blvd. for a motor vehicle crash.  During the course of the investigation, police learned one of the operators, Gordon Whitfield, did not possess a valid driver’s license.  Police filed for charges against Whitfield at the District Court of Allegany County.  Whitfield signed for his copy of the summons and he was released pending trial.  …
