Columbia St. Assault Leads to Arrest

On Saturday, April 12, 2025 at approximately 12:02 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the first block of Columbia Street for an assault in progress.  Police arrived on scene and observed a male and female in an active disturbance.  The male, who was identified as Eric Brewington, was detained due to his behavior that had attracted the attention of multiple people in the area. Brewington was arrested and transported to police headquarters.  After further investigation, police learned that Brewington had assaulted the other party involved.  Officers observed that the victim had sustained injuries.  Brewington was later seen…

BENCH WARRANT SERVED

BENCH WARRANT SERVED On Friday, April 11, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Jacob Baker.  The warrant was issued as the result of Baker failing to appear for court on an original charge of Theft: $100 to under $1,500.  Baker was arrested and transported to Central Booking.  He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on a $500 bond. State-of-the-Art Cyber Range Training Program at Allegany College of Maryland

Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) announced today that it will host a ribbon-cutting event at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, in its Technology Building to mark the launch of its participation in Maryland’s Cyber Workforce Accelerator (CWA) program. DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY ARREST

On Saturday, April 12, 2025 at approximately 12:34 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 700 block of Maryland Avenue for a male subject destroying the inside of the store.  Police arrived on scene and detained the suspect who was identified as Jason Kauffman.  The staff reported that Kauffman destroyed and stole merchandise.  After further investigation, Kauffman was arrested and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center where he is currently being held awaiting a bond hearing. If the halls of the Capitol could talk, they’d have plenty of stories to tell after this final week of the 2025 legislative session. Things got hectic, to say the least. Tempers ran high. Bills that seemed like sure bets fizzled out, while others came back from the brink. There was a lot of pacing, last-minute negotiating, and more than a few furrowed brows. National Day of Prayer Local Events Planned

Events are being planned for the annual National Day of Prayer.  A prayer rally will be held April 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Central Assembly Church on Bedford Road with a freewill offering to be taken.  There will be a prayer breakfast May 1 at 8 a.m. at the Allegany County Fairgrounds multipurpose building.  An outdoor observance will take place at City Hall on May 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will feature live music and prayer.
