WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 8 PM TUESDAY

National Weather Service has issued a WIND ADVISORY for portions of western Maryland, central, northwest, and western Virginia, and eastern West Virginia from 10 AM to 8 PM Tuesday. West winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts of 45 to 50 mph expected. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may resut. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

Parade Has DDC Approval

Allegany College of Maryland Giving Day April 16

Allegany College of Maryland is hoping to rally 500 donors to make online donations during the school’s second Allegany Gives event on Wednesday, April 16. Last year, donors raised over $88,000 from alumni and community members. Donations given during the 24-hour event can be directed to special impact funds or to an area of the givers choice. BURGLARY ARREST

On Sunday, April 13, 2025 at approximately 4:53 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 100 block of Baltimore Street for a breaking and entering complaint.  Police contacted the victim who reported that someone had burglarized their business.  During the investigation, a description of the suspect was obtained.  An officer located a male subject in the area who matched the description of the suspect.  The subject was detained and later identified as Larry Meyers Jr. After further investigation, Meyers was arrested and transported to police headquarters.  Police learned that Meyers had initially provided them…

TRESPASSING ARREST

On Sunday, April 13, 2025 at approximately 5:08 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a health facility in the 12000 block of Willowbrook Rd. for a male subject trespassing.  Police arrived on scene and contacted the staff who reported that Malik Freeman had been discharged from the facility and was refusing to leave the property.  Officers contacted Freeman and advised him that he needed to leave.  Freeman refused to listen to officers at which time he was arrested and transported to police headquarters.  Freeman was later issued a criminal citation and released pending trial. AOB Distinctive Scholars Honored

The Archdiocese of Baltimore recently held its Honors Convocation recognizing outstanding high school students.  Three Bishop Walsh students traveled to Baltimore’s Catholic High School to receive recognition as Distinctive Scholars.  The BW seniors are James Edward Hose, Cassandra Hein, and Kaitlyn Kutcher.  All three rank at the top of their class and contribute to the school through many activities and leadership responsibilities.  The Distinctive Scholars ceremony dates back to the 1990s in the archdiocese.
