Park Street Disorderly Conduct Arrest
On December 28th, 2024 at approximately 20:47 p.m, the Cumberland Police Department responded to Park Street for a destruction of property complaint. Upon arrival an officer was informed that the victim had reported someone throwing a brick at their vehicle causing damage to the front passenger door. A description was provided to the officer and the suspect was located in the vicinity of the incident. The suspect was identified as Michael Allen Wallace. FUGITIVE WARRANT SERVED
On December 27th, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a Fugitive warrant on Jeremy Travis Whetzel. The original warrant was issued from Mineral County, WV as a result of Whetzel violating conditions of his parole. Whetzel was arrested and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center, to await extradition back to Mineral County, WV. Cumberland set to Ring in the New Year
The stage is already set up in front of the waterfall on Liberty Street park in Historic City Center for the celebration this year. The ball drop will be off the Cumberland Arms building at midnight along with fireworks at the Baltimore Street bridge by the railroad tracks. Melinda Kelleher, Executive Director Downtown Development Commission says DJ Jimmy Hook will begin playing music at 10:30PM and she will be handing out party items at the DDC booth by the stage. Liberty Street DUI Arrest
On December 28th, 2024 at approximately 2:04 a.m. an officer observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way on Liberty Street and without the use of its headlights. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Lorraine Ann Blubaugh. Blubaugh showed signs of impairment and smelled of an alcoholic beverage. Blubaugh was offered Standardized Field Sobriety tests and based on the officer’s observations she was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI/DWI. CUMBERLAND CLOCK INSTALLED
In preparation for Wednesday’s official unveiling of the Cumberland Clock, Don Fischer of Fischer Signs erected the pedestal and clock Friday. The clock, which has been fully-funded by private donors since its announcement, is the latest project of Let’s Beautify Cumberland! The clock epitomizes the idea of making time for your community, and is located at Hendershot Park at the corner of Greene and Baltimore Streets. Senator-Elect Justice Receives Committee Assignments
West Virginia’s new senator-elect, Jim Justice, says he could not have been placed on committees better suited to his strengths. Justice recently received notice of the United States Senate committees he will be assigned to, starting with his term in January. Justice will serve on the Committees of Energy and Natural Resources, Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and the Aging Committee.
“Low Carb” Building
Nearly $32 million dollars in federal funding will support the use of low carbon materials in federally funded projects across Maryland. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin said the funding supports Maryland’s goal to reduce greenhouse emissions by 60% by 2031. The state already uses reclaimed asphalt on certain projects.
