Cumberland Police continue to probe death of Todd Adams

The Cumberland Police and the C3I Unit continue to probe the death of 42-year-old Todd Adams who was found deceased in the Frederick Street parking garage on December 22, 2024. The victim, Todd Adams, was known to the local area and frequented the downtown Cumberland area, particularly the resources catering to the homeless population.  Mr. Adams was well known downtown and was noticeable due to having a prosthetic leg.  We are particularly interested in talking to anyone who was with him or observed him walking downtown Saturday prior to the discovery of his death, Sunday at 1:30 am. It’s Christmas Day and “Christmas In Maryland” is featured programming throughout the day on WCBC 1270AM and 103.1FM.  John Patti, who produces the show, talked to WCBC about finding a little bit of Christmas magic across the Bay Bridge in Cambridge. “We found a couple in Cambridge – Santa Don and Mrs. Claus, Susie. Well, Don and Susie went to Santa Claus School and they learned how to be Mr. and Mrs. Claus and they are a hoot! Because this time of year, they go out and make children’s Christmases.”

Bench Warrants Served

On Monday, December 23rd, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Anthony Clayton Talbert Sr, 44, of Cumberland MD. Talbert was arrested on two active Bench Warrants issued by the Allegany County District Court on December 13th. Both warrants allege Talbert violated the terms and conditions of probation that had been placed upon him due to previous convictions on charges of CDS Possession. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond. Fugitive from Justice Arrest

On Monday, December 23rd, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Terry Williams Adkins, 32, of Orange Co. FL. Adkins was arrested on an active Fugitive Warrant when it was discovered that he had an active warrant for his arrest in Orange County, FL. The original warrant alleges Adkins failed to register as a sex offender in that jurisdiction. At this time, Adkins has been remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center where he is being held without bond. He is currently awaiting extradition to Florida. Gap Users Financial Benefit To Community

A recap of users on the Great Allegheny Passage was given at the most recent Allegany County Commissioners meeting. Larry Brock of Mountain Maryland Trails passed along a check for $1500 to the commissioners and said that trail users may mostly be locals, but the hikers and bikers that come through on the GAP have a great impact on the area economy.  “There’s about 150,000 users a year on the GAP – about two thirds of them are we locals, but the other third -  about 50,000 people a year are other people. “OPMs” are what I call it – other…

Marylanders Cutting Basics to Pay Utility Bills

A recent study by Lending Tree says that almost 30% of Maryland residents have reduced their basic expenses in order to afford rising electricity costs. The study showed many sacrifice necessities including medicine and food and that 21% of residents often keep their homes at unsafe temperatures to avoid high utility bills. Nationwide, Americans spent an average of $185.50 on electricity bills in August of this year. 23% found they were unable to pay an energy bill in full.

Piedmont Gets Funding for Water Source

The town of Piedmont is receiving $775,000 through the West Virginia Water Development Authority for a groundwater well that will serve as its primary water source. Piedmont had received water from the Verso Mill until its shutdown in 2020 and has since been purchasing its water from Westernport. Piedmont Water Commissioner Greg Harvey tells WCBC a matching grant from the West Virginia Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council will cover the $1.5 million dollar project. “The city is extremely grateful for the grant money that has been awarded to Piedmont.
