County United Way Gets Grant To Fight Diabetes
The County United Way received part of a $7 million dollar community grant from CareFirst in an effort to combat diabetes. Along with other Allegany County groups and the Appalachian Farm and Food Alliance, CUW received almost $120,000. Director Michele Walker says the funds will provide food from local farms to those with specific health challenges… “What they will be doing is they will be holding food distributions throughout Allegany and Garrett County, and they will provide fresh vegetables and fruits to those people hoping to reduce the number of diabetics or help the number of diabetics eat…
Ellicott City Receives Flood Mitigation Help
After flooding in both 2016 and 2018, Ellicott City is getting $10 million dollars for flood mitigation work. Two major infrastructure projects will protect the city’s historic Main Street and surrounding area from catastrophic flooding. State Emergency Management Secretary Russ Strickland says loans like this through the Resilient Maryland Loan Fund are game changers for protecting citizens and property… “This is where we’re behind the scenes working to make a community safer, by mitigation and by providing that kind of continual resiliency that will protect the community.”

West Virginia Senator Jim Justice brought along Toby and Edith, his make-believe run of the mill state residents, to the 2025 Bitcoin conference in Las Vegas. Summer Reading Program Begins
Summer reading programs start today at libraries across Allegany County. Readers are encouraged to log the books they read over the summer. Allegany County Library Marketing Director Ashley Swinford says all ages can participate by logging what they read from the library. Swinford said the reader’s choice of physical books, audiobooks, or magazines all get them a chance to win prizes… “You fill it out and then you bring it back in. BENCH WARRANT & BODY ATTACHMENT SERVED On Saturday, June 7, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant and a body attachment on Nicolas D’Atri. The warrant was issued as the result of D’Atri failing to appear in court on an original charge of Knowingly Driving Uninsured Vehicle. The body attachment was child support related. Community Leader Passes Away
A community leader in Mount Savage and Allegany County has passed away. Danny Williams died Friday at the age of 76. Williams served 55 years at the Mount Savage Volunteer Fire Department in many office positions and as a firefighter and EMT. He also served as president of the Mount Savage Water Company and was active each summer at the Allegany County Fair and Ag Expo, making announcements throughout the evening. East Hardy Wins State Title and Frankfort is Runner-Up
The East Hardy Cougars won the Class A baseball title Saturday with a 10-7 win over Madonna. The Frankfort Falcons fell in the AAA title game, 5-0, to Ripley. The title is the first for East Hardy since 1987. Frankfort won the AA title last year.

The automotive training program at ACM has received ASE Training Program accreditation by the ASE Education Foundation.
