Seeking Information on Multiple Vehicle Thefts

Garrett County Sheriff's Office is seeking information relating to multiple thefts from vehicles in the Grantsville area that occurred on May 20, 2025. The suspects then cashed checks and obtained money from the victims' accounts in Somerset, Pennsylvania, on May 21, 2025. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Pritt at the Garrett County Sheriff's Office at 301-334-1911.  

Power Crews Restoring Power throughout Allegany County

Friday afternoon’s thunderstorms caused a number of electrical failures in the community. Downed trees and electrical lines kept fire crews and Potomac Edison linemen responding to over 2,000 reports of power outages. A large number of those residents without power live in the North End of Cumberland. Power was restored just before 3 a.m. Saturday morning. WCBC's transmitter site on Wills Mountain was one of those affected by the electrical failure. Transmission and distribution crews remain out restoring power to 160 residents and businesses throughout Allegany County today.

The Cumberland Police Dept in conjunction with the Combined County Criminal Investigations Unit is currently investigating a series of motor vehicle thefts that have occurred throughout various areas of the City of Cumberland. Person(s) unknown are entering vehicles that have been unlocked and are taking the vehicles from various residences. DMV warns of text message payment scam

West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is warning members of the public not to fall for a text message payment scam that is making the rounds. People have been contacting the DMV about receiving texts threatening to take action if they don’t pay an outstanding toll account. “West Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Final notice,” the phony texts read. “Our system shows that your toll account is still unpaid. Mountain Ridge Seniors Earn Seal of Biliteracy

Five seniors from Mountain Ridge have earned the prestigious Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish. To receive this distinction, students must demonstrate proficiency in both Spanish and English across four key areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Gov. Moore Announces Millions of Dollars in Projected Long-Term Taxpayer Savings Under Government Modernization Initiative

Governor Wes Moore today announced hundreds of millions of dollars in projected long-term taxpayer savings under the Moore-Miller Administration's government modernization initiative. A flash flood warning is in effect until 8 p.m. in southwestern Allegany County and central Mineral County.  Impacted communities could include Keyser, Piedmont, Luke, Westernport, Bel Air, Fort Ashby, and Short Gap.
