VFW Henry Hart Post 1411 will have a service at 11am at Henry Hart's grave at Rose Hill Cemetery on Fayette Street. Search Continues For Miner

Rescue teams continue their search for a missing miner in Nicolas County, West Virginia. A wall collapse at the Rolling Thunder complex on Saturday caused flooding into a mine. The missing miner is a foreman and is believed to be about three-quarters of a mile in to the mine. He had helped his team escape before becoming trapped. Veterans Honored At County Meeting

The Allegany County Commissioners took time out at their recent meeting to honor those employed by the county who have served in the military. The county’s Human Resources Director, Kristie Liller, read a statement ahead of Veterans Day to honor the employees for their service…     “A total of 23 Allegany County employees have identified themselves as veterans, with a combined total of 153 years of service, representing multiple branches. Allegany County Government would like to publicly express its sincere gratitude to all veterans for their unwavering commitment to country, justice, and democracy.”

Bel Air Water Rates Affecting Property Values

Food Bank Seeing Marked Increase

The Western Maryland Food Bank is seeing first hand the effects of no SNAP benefits being distributed for November.  Director Amy Moyer talked to WCBC on Monday, saying that things have picked up considerably with those needing food. “We’re seeing a ton of people that are feeling the effects of not having their assistance. We’re seeing some government workers that aren’t getting paid and having to come ask for help for the first time. Economic Development Can Aid Established Businesses

There has been no shortage of publicity on programs from both the county and city designed to attract and assist new businesses wanting to locate to the Western Maryland area. New Terminal Opens Next Week at Pittsburgh International Airport

After four years of construction, the new terminal will open on November 18 at Pittsburgh International Airport.  The renovation project cost 1.7 billion dollars.  Five more TSA lanes have been added, along with two nearby parking areas, adding more than 6,000 spaces equipped with snow-melt systems, electric vehicle charging stations, and a new space-finder system.

Governor Moore Boosts Horse Industry

Governor Wes Moore signed an executive order last week formally establishing the Maryland Horse Industry Strategic Plan to guide the future of Maryland’s $2.9 billion equine sector.   With more horses per square mile than any other state, Maryland’s horse economy supports thousands of jobs, maintains open space, and attracts visitors from across the nation and world through premier events. Maryland’s horse industry also supports more than 28,000 jobs and $1.24 billion in wages statewide.

Lakemont Park Light Show

Lakemont Park in Altoona is once again hosting its “Holiday Lights on the Lake” program.  The light show will run from November 14 until January 4 from 6-10 p.m. each evening.
