Charges Filed in Dumpster Fire

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s office completed an investigation of the dumpster fire on West Oldtown Road that occurred Monday evening.  The fire was set in a Burgmeier’s Hauling Inc. dumpster and was discovered by a passerby around 6 pm. City of Cumberland firefighters responded to the blaze and had it under control within minutes.  The estimated loss is $1,000.  The suspect is said to have used a lighter to ignite combustible materials inside the dumpster.  With the assistance of the Cumberland Police Department, a suspect was identified and charges are being filed.

No trash pickup Thursday

Due to the closing of the landfill because of extreme weather conditions, City of Cumberland trash collection has been suspended for the Thursday, Lower West Side, East Side, Seton Drive, Upper West Side areaa of the City of Cumberland. Mayor Takes Issue With Newspaper Coverage

City of Cumberland Public Works Announces Limited Salting Operations Due to Regional Salt Supplier Delays

 The City of Cumberland Public Works Department is advising residents that due to a regional road salt supplier issue affecting salt deliveries and critical supply levels impacting multiple agencies in our area, salting operations during the upcoming ice storm will be limited to major roadways and hospital routes. The city remains committed to public safety and is prioritizing essential transportation routes to ensure accessibility for emergency responders and medical facilities. Bench Warrants Served

On Tuesday, February 4th, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Brent Kevin Myers Jr, 37, of Cumberland MD. Myers was arrested on an active Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court on February 3rd, 2025. The warrant alleges Myers violated the terms and conditions of probation that had been placed upon him due to a previous conviction related to sex offender registration charges. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond. Hearing Set For Transmission Line Bill

A bill concerning a proposed new transmission line from Next Era is having a hearing in Annapolis February 11 at 1pm. Morrisey Sees Energy Policy Positive For Mountain State

Overall, Governor Patrick Morrisey sees President Trump’s energy policies as a plus for West Virginia.  Morrisey is working to understand the new president’s executive orders to see what effect they may have on major West Virginia industrial developments.
