UPMC Western Maryland is among the nation’s top performing hospitals for treating heart attack patients. For the fourth year in a row, UPMC has received the MI Registry Patient Platinum Award. The Heart and Vascular Institute is one of only 259 hospitals to receive recognition. Assault Arrest Made on Grand Ave
On Saturday July 13th, 2024 at approximately 6:00 pm, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 100 block of Grand Avenue for a reported assault. Upon officer’s arrival they spoke with the victim, who alleged that Richard Crowe Sr had assaulted them. Officers then spoke with Crowe Sr who indicated that there was an assault that had taken place after an argument. Officers were able to observe evidence of the assault and Crowe Sr was placed under arrest. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was released on an unsecured $5,000 bond. Columbia St. Arrest Made
On Saturday July 13th, 2024 at approximately 1:28 am, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 200 block of Columbia Street for a reported breaking and entering. Upon officer’s arrival they located with the suspect, Brandon Spiker. Officers spoke with him about the incident and learned that Spiker had made entry into a residence in the 200 block of Independence Street, and removed items from an attached garage. Bishop Walsh Announces AP Results
The College Board has released scores from the May, 2024 Advanced Placement exams and Bishop Walsh students excelled. The students attained a 91% pass rate, meaning that they attained 3 or above on the exams scored on a 1-5 scale. In fact, 72% of the scores were 4 or 5. The Bishop Walsh scores far surpass those at the state and national levels. Students enrolled in ten A.P. courses AT Bishop Walsh during the past academic year. PA State Police Offers Information Card for People with Autism
The Pennsylvania State Police is encouraging autistic individuals to take advantage of a free safety resource designed to improve their interactions with law enforcement officers. Pennsylvania residents with autism can print out information cards through the state’s website that can be presented to police during an interaction, informing officers that the individual may be nonverbal, or hyper-sensitive to touch or loud noises. The cards also contain tips for officers, including keeping questions and commands simple. For more information go to www.pa.gov. Driving Under the Influence Arrest
On Saturday July 13th, 2024 at approximately 1:46 am, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a single motor vehicle Crash in the area of N Centre Street and Frederick Street. Upon officer’s arrival they observed a single vehicle to have left the roadway and struck fixtures of the parklet. The operator, Ashley Griggs, was contacted and officers were able to observe evidence of impairment. After the performance of standardized field sobriety tests, further evidence was observed.
