The latest public opinion poll from Gonzales shows that Republican Neil Parrott has a slight edge in the race for Congress over Democrat April Delaney. The Gonzales poll has Parrott with a 2 point lead over Delaney in the sixth Congressional district. That seat is currently held by David Trone, who defeated Parrott in a close race two years ago.

Throughout August and September, the Maryland State Police Financial Crimes Unit received reports of several internet-based scams specific to Gmail accounts. In a move to improve the environment for dogs at the Allegany County Animal Shelter, 72 new sound panels are going in the dog building. Donors gave nearly $11,000 for the panels that will be installed by Fielding Construction. On Monday, September 16th, 2024, The Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 100 block of Grand Ave for the report of an assault. Once on scene, officers contacted the victim of the alleged assault, who was found to have visible neck injuries. It was learned that an argument broke out in the home between the victim and a male subject. The male subject then began to assault the victim and choked them during the altercation. On Tuesday, September 17th, the Cumberland Police Department served a Criminal Summons on David Lee McCauley, 58, of Cumberland MD. The summons was in reference to an incident that occurred on September 15th. During that incident, it is alleged that McCauley maliciously damaged a residence on Potomac St. McCauley later assaulted the owner of the property when confronted at a business in the 400 block of Virginia Ave. McCauley was served the summons and released, pending trial in district court. The Cumberland Mayor and City Council continued discussion during their work session Tuesday evening about the parking situation in Butler and Church Alleys that run behind businesses on North Centre Street. Crowded parking on both sides of the alleys hamper emergency vehicles that may need to access the area. Moose and Goldie have officially joined the ranks of 36 other therapy dogs West Virginia First Lady Cathy Justice has introduced through the Friends With Paws program. Moose, a golden retriever, has been placed at Hampshire High School in Romney while Goldie, a Labrador retriever, is going to work at Keyser Middle School.
