The latest public opinion poll from Gonzales shows that Republican Neil Parrott has a slight edge in the race for Congress over Democrat April Delaney.  The Gonzales poll has Parrott with a 2 point lead over Delaney in the sixth Congressional district.  That seat is currently held by David Trone, who defeated Parrott in a close race two years ago.

(PIKESVILLE, MD) – Maryland State Police are warning residents to be aware of an internet scam involving Gmail accounts that is currently active in Maryland. Throughout August and September, the Maryland State Police Financial Crimes Unit received reports of several internet-based scams specific to Gmail accounts. The reports indicate that the scammer sends an email to the potential victim’s Gmail account with a photograph of their residence from Google Maps. In a move to improve the environment for dogs at the Allegany County Animal Shelter, 72 new sound panels are going in the dog building.  Donors gave nearly $11,000 for the panels that will be installed by Fielding Construction.  Shelter Board President Becky McClarran tells WCBC that the panels will help make the shelter less stressful for the animals… “You can imagine when you have 125 dogs and you walk in and they all start barking – how crazy loud it is. Governor Wes Moore has announced the appointment of Michael Pokorny as the chief executive officer of the newly formed Maryland Community investment Corporation. Prior to his appointment, Pokorny worked as an affordable housing and community development professional. On Monday, September 16th, 2024, The Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 100 block of Grand Ave for the report of an assault. Once on scene, officers contacted the victim of the alleged assault, who was found to have visible neck injuries. It was learned that an argument broke out in the home between the victim and a male subject. The male subject then began to assault the victim and choked them during the altercation. On Tuesday, September 17th, the Cumberland Police Department served a Criminal Summons on David Lee McCauley, 58, of Cumberland MD. The summons was in reference to an incident that occurred on September 15th. During that incident, it is alleged that McCauley maliciously damaged a residence on Potomac St. McCauley later assaulted the owner of the property when confronted at a business in the 400 block of Virginia Ave. McCauley was served the summons and released, pending trial in district court. The Cumberland Mayor and City Council continued discussion during their work session Tuesday evening about the parking situation in Butler and Church Alleys that run behind businesses on North Centre Street.  Crowded parking on both sides of the alleys hamper emergency vehicles that may need to access the area.  Plans discussed include towing illegally parked vehicles and creating lease agreements with tenants that live in the area. Moose and Goldie have officially joined the ranks of 36 other therapy dogs West Virginia First Lady Cathy Justice has introduced through the Friends With Paws program.
