Columbia Street Assault arrest

On Friday, September 13th, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 400 Block of Columbia Street for the report of an assault. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with Joshua Kight and Nicholas McKinley who both had visible signs of injuries. Through the investigation, it was learned that both Kight and McKinley did assault each other. Kight was arrested and taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was released on a $15,000 unsecured bond. Frostburg’s Arion Band 10:00 AM The Arion Band remains one of the oldest continuously operating community bands in the United States, based in Frostburg, Maryland. Established in 1877 by Germans immigrating to the area for the plentiful coal mining jobs, the band has been playing for 147 years. The band takes its name from Arion, a legendary Corinthian lyre player. This weekend, the Heritage Days festival includes free tours by the Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization of Saints Peter and Paul and Rose Hill Cemeteries located on Fayette Street.  Walking tours take place Saturday and Sunday at Noon and 3pm. Gov. Justice launches School Safety Task Force

In response to the recent uptick in school threats across the state, Gov. Jim Justice has directed The West Virginia Department of Homeland Security to establish a comprehensive task force to address and mitigate these concerns. The newly created School Safety Task Force is actively compiling and analyzing all reported school threats by county, educational institution, and Safe Schools Unit Region to ensure a thorough and coordinated response. Tours By Historic Cemetery Group Saturday/Sunday

Cumberland Police Taking Action On School Threats

Over the past week, the Cumberland Police Department, in cooperation with the Allegany County Board of Education, has been actively investigating a series of threats made against local schools. Fortunately, all reported incidents have been determined to be non-credible and have been classified as pranks. As part of the investigations, officers recovered three toy guns and seized multiple student cell phones and computers. Several students have been arrested in connection with these incidents, and additional arrests are pending.
