West Virginians say access to childcare is a significant challenge for the state. Forty-three percent of respondents in the most recent MetroNews West Virginia Poll said access to childcare is a major problem in West Virginia. Another 33% said it’s a minor problem. Only 11% said it’s not a problem at all, and 14% said they’re not sure.

Allegany High School’s Meet The Squad festivities will be this evening at 6pm in the school gymnasium on Haystack Mountain. All fall sports teams will be introduced as well as Miss Campera and her court. There will be performances by the cheerleaders, Arrowettes, and ban. The concession stand will be open, as will the Gridiron Club booth.

A Baltimore man was sentenced to three years in prison after entering a guilty plea for Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin. Judge Justin Gregory in the Circuit Court of Garrett County sentenced Christopher Johnson at the top of the sentencing guidelines, based on criminal history. The charges stem from an incident in January when Johnson was observed with drug items in plain view at a local motel. Deputies recovered a number of capsules containing heroin along with other items.
The University of Pittsburgh and UPMC have released a new study supporting annual breast cancer screening for women over 40. The study shows women having annual mammograms are less likely to have late-stage cancer as well as higher survival rates than women who screen every other year. Dr. Margarita Zuley who heads up Breast Imaging at Pitt and UPMC says there is a significant benefit for annual screening as early detection creates a better chance of survival…
Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown has sued three gun dealers in Montgomery County for illegally selling dozens of firearms that were trafficked into the District of Columbia. A total of 34 semiautomatic pistols were purchased by Demetrius Minor over a 7-month period. Minor, acting as a “straw purchaser” bought the guns and then sold them to individuals not legally entitled to possess them. ESPN is reporting today that the Washington Commanders football organization have fired an employee after a video surfaced where he commented on players being homophobic, accused Cowboys owner Jerry Jones of being racist and called NFL commissioner Roger Goodell a "$50 million puppet." He also made comments about Commanders fans. Rael Enteen has been Washington's vice president of content for four years. The team on Thursday confirmed the firing via a spokesperson but had no other comment on the matter. Allegany County High School Senior and Track and Field athlete Avery Miller received a Certificate of Recognition at Tuesday’s Cumberland Mayor and City Council Open Session meeting. Miller has won two Track and Field State Championships, two National Championships, and she has had scholarship offers from SMU and NC State.
