Volunteers Needed For Festival
The 55th annual Heritage Days Festival is fast approaching and the Allegany County Historical Society is looking for volunteers. Society spokesman Dave Williams told WCBC that the festival has added many more options for entertainment and education over the years and anyone wishing to help out should get in touch to find an opportunity… "You're welcome to leave a message at 301-777-8678 and we'll get back to you and we'll be sending out some mass email to recruit some folks to help us pull it off because it's got a lot of moving parts these days."
Willowbrook Road Trespassing arrest
On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 12000 block of Willowbrook Road for the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival at the building, Officers located Jaymie Snyder, who refused to leave the property. Through the investigation it was learned that Snyder had removed her shirt, exposing herself to several bystanders in the area. Snyder was arrested and taken before a District Court Commissioner where she was released on a $1,000 bond pending her trial. Arrest: Jaymie Lynn Snyder, age 45, Cumberland, Maryland. Charge: Trespassing Posted Property, Disorderly Conduct, Indecent Exposure.
Baltimore Street Trespassing Arrest
On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department responded to a building in the 200 Block of Baltimore Street for a premises check. Upon arrival at the building, which was posted with no trespassing signage, Officers located several individuals inside. Robert Connolly, Stephanie Connolly, Matthew Norris, and Shawn Gladden were arrested for trespassing. Additionally, Officers located controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia on Gladden’s person. All four individuals were issued a Maryland Criminal Complaint Citation and released pending their trial at District Court. Arrest: Robert Connolly, age 38, Cumberland, Maryland. CARVER COMMUNITY CENTER BOARD RELEASES SOCIAL MEDIA, RFQ FOR CLEANUP OF FREDERICK LOCATION
The Carver Community Center, Inc Board of Directors of Cumberland, Maryland made two important steps in the revitalization of the 340 Frederick Street property. First, the Board launched a Facebook page dedicated to updates on the progress of the restoration. Interested individuals can follow the Facebook page at Facebook.com/carvercumberland. On the Facebook page is also a link to a Request for Qualifications for cleanup and restoration services. Criminal Summons/Body Attachment Served
On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a Criminal Summons on Christopher King. The Allegany County District Court issued the summons as a result of a citizen complaint. King was served with the summons and released pending his trial at District Court. Arrest: Christopher Chase King, age 41, Cumberland, Maryland. Charge: Malicious Destruction of Property. Last Week To Vote For County in 10 Best Poll
This is the last week to vote for Allegany County in the USA Today 10 Best Awards for “Best Place to Visit For Fall.” The contest remains open for voting through Monday, September 9. Voting totals are no longer visible to the public. Allegany County Tourism director Ashli Workman said the last standings showed the county in third place behind Mackinac Island, Michigan and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Caucus Asks Governor To Rescind Executive Order
The Maryland House Republican Caucus is asking Governor Moore to rescind an order that would put Maryland construction workers at a competitive disadvantage. The executive order requires the consideration of a Project Labor Agreement on large construction projects and often favors union labor. Currently, almost 90% of Maryland’s construction workers are non-union. Moore’s order appears related to the contract for rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge that was awarded to a Nebraska firm.
Poll On Maryland US Senate Race Still Shows Dead Heat
The latest Gonzalez Media Services poll shows that the race between Republican Larry Hogan and Democrat Angela Alsobrooks is a toss-up and could come down to Independent voters calling the winner. Most recent numbers show that Alsobrooks has a slight edge over Hogan 46% to 41%, but statewide 11% are undecided. Of that 11%, 28% are Independent voters. Name recognition will also play a part – statewide, 34% of voters are not familiar with Alsobrooks.
Cannabis Administration Director Leaving
Will Tilburg, who has headed the Maryland Cannabis Administration from its inception, will leave the post at the end of December. Governor Moore praised Tilburg for his accomplishments in the role, including the successful implementation of a licensing round exclusively for social equity applicants. Maryland achieved over one billion dollars in sales in the first year of legalized recreational marijuana sales. A search for Tilburg’s replacement is ongoing.
Justice Plans to Call Special Session
West Virginia Governor Jim Justice announced plans Wednesday to call a second special session of the legislature this year. The date will be announced Monday. The governor wants the session to call for a personal income tax cut and to implement a childcare tax credit.
