A ground-penetrating radar survey is going to take a look at the Fort Cumberland site on Washington Street, beginning June 17th. Archaeologist Dr. Time Horsley will conduct a non-invasive survey with radar equipment designed to locate buried structures or artifacts without damage. Recently, Dr. Dennis Dey spoke with WCBC about the importance of quick treatment for stroke patients. Dr. Dey is the Medical Director for UPMC Western Maryland’s Stroke Center. He says there are signs people should be aware of and act on quickly…     “Which would be for example, sudden weakness of the face, sudden weakness of the arm, leg, or both.  An inability to speak or see or walk. The Pittsburgh Penguins have hired 42 year old Dan Muse as their new head coach.  Muse served several years as an assistant in PIttsburgh and most recently was an assistant for the New York Rangers.  Muse replaces longtime head coach Mike Sullivan, who is now the head coach of the Rangers.

C&O Canal National Park Superintendent Tina Capetta has retired after serving in the National Park Service for 37 years. Chris Stevens, NPS Program Manager for the Canal, told the Canal Place Preservation Board that for now the park service’s deputy superintendent will be in charge…     “Our superintendent, Tina Capetta, is retiring. She’s had 37 years of service in the park service and she will be leaving May 31. Our deputy superintendent Ed Wenschof will be acting as Superintendent, and I’m sure will be acting as the representative to the board here.”

In its ninth-best month, Maryland’s sports wagering market contributed $6.3 million dollars in tax revenue to the state. Sports wagers for the month totaled $513 million with $454 million dollars in payouts. Mobile betting made up the majority of wagers placed. Since the inception of the state’s sports wagering program, over $160 million dollars has went to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Education Fund.
