Arrest Warrant Served On Friday June 28th, 2024 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on James Moellenkamp. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court when he failed to appear for his trial on March 3rd, 2021. Moellenkamp was later taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was released on Arrest: James Edward Moellenkamp, age 48, Ridgley West Virginia. Charge: Failure to Appear.
FSU Stem Summit Held
Twenty high school students from Maryland and Pennsylvania participated in the Frostburg State University STEM Summit June 18-21. Participants were provided a project briefing on the development of a regional sports center planned for Allegany County and were tasked with proposing sustainable spaces within that facility. Students received instruction and conducted experiments in STEM fields, participated in field trips and heard from guest speakers. Teams presented their recommendations for the sports complex to more than 100 audience members consisting of their families, FSU administrators, faculty, staff and teaching assistants and current and prospective donors.
Disaster Recovery Nationwide Support Encouraged
U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressman Kweisi Mfume are calling on congressional colleagues to support President Joe Biden’s supplemental funding request for disaster recovery nationwide. The measure includes funding for the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration Emergency Relief program, which already has provided initial funding and will continue to be the primary resource for federal funds to replace the Francis Scott Key Bridge that was hit by a cargo ship and collapsed in March. Police Release Name of Driver Killed In Thursday Moose Curve Crash
The Cumberland Police Department has released the name of the deceased driver of the tractor-trailer in yesterday's crash on I-68. Musa Suwareh, 49 years old, from Lenexa, Kansas succumbed to injuries sustained when the truck he was driving left the roadway and crashed. The next of kin has been notified.

First Iron Furnace Festival This Saturday
The First Annual Iron Furnace Festival will take place this Saturday in Lonaconing. The new festival replaces the Sunday in the Park event that was held for many years. Grant Funding Announced For Nurse Examiner
Governor Jim Justice has awarded $150,000 in West Virginia Sexual Assault Forensic Examination grant funds to the West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information and Services. Funding will be used to hire, retain, and train a statewide Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner project coordinator who will provide technical assistance to other Examiners and qualified medical providers. Calling All Buccaneers for Frostburg’s Pirates Ahoy Event
The City of Frostburg will once again be the site of a pirate invasion on Wed., July 10 when the Children’s Literature Centre at Frostburg State University and the City of Frostburg team up to provide a free day of pirate merriment, tales, treasures and treats for young children of the region. On Friday, June 28, 2024 at approximately 1:20 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the area of N. Cedar Street and Blaul Avenue for a hit and run complaint. During the investigation, a group of people began yelling and interfering with the investigation. The group was warned multiple times by the police to stop causing a disturbance. On Thursday, June 27, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Benjamin Reimer. The warrant was issued as the result of Reimer violating his probation. He was originally charged with CDS: Possess-Not Cannabis. Reimer was arrested and later seen by a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing. Reimer posted a $500 bond.
