Cumberland Nominated For Top Adventure Town
Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine has once again nominated Cumberland as a “Top Adventure Town.” The public will select the top outdoor town in four categories including large, medium, small, and tiny town. Cumberland can be found in the medium town category. There will be three rounds of voting and all four winning towns will be featured in the November issue of the magazine. Cumberland has been nominated numerous times, coming in as runner-up, but has yet to take the full title. Vote at blueridgeoutdoors.com.
Maryland State Police Aviation Rescues Three People in Maryland And West Virginia
Maryland State Police Aviation Command helped rescue a swimmer, hiker and ATV operator over the weekend in three separate hoist missions in Maryland and West Virginia. On Saturday afternoon, Trooper 5, a helicopter crew based in Cumberland, responded to rescue a swimmer with a diving head injury from a river at Audra State Park in Belington, West Virginia. The AgustaWestland AW-139 helicopter hovered above the river while a Trooper/Paramedic was lowered to a rock to assist the swimmer. Tractor Trailer Crash on I-68 This Morning
Eastbound traffic on Interstate 68 was blocked for some time this morning after a tractor trailer overturned near mile marker 44, close to the Route 220 exit. Cars werer backed up for a time until the roadway could be opened. State Highway workers were cleaning up a fuel spill that occurred with the crash. Cars detoured onto Greene Street in the City were then stopped again when a truck became stuck at the railroad trestle.
WV Governor Addresses Firefighters
West Virginia Governor Jim Justice, attended the 96th West Virginia State Fireman’s Association convention on Friday where he ceremonially signed House Bill 5128 which was approved in the 2024 General Assembly.
