Jim Justice Vague on Transition to Senate
West Virginia Governor Jim Justice has been elected to the U.S. Senate but says he is unsure if he will be sworn in with the other senators on January 3. Justice’s term as governor does not end until January 13. The two term Republican said he is still trying to figure out how to handle the conflicting schedules. Justice added that he still plans to coach girls basketball at Greenbrier East High School despite his duties in Washington.
No Jail Time After Buckel Enters Alford Plea for Impaired Driving Charge
Maryland House Minority Leader Jason Buckel will not be serving any jail time for a charge of driving while impaired earlier this year. Buckel entered an Alford plea in Allegany County District Court Monday. He received probation before judgement and a 270 day suspension of his driver’s license. Buckel was stopped in LaVale in June along National Highway. The plea to a misdemeanor will not jeopardize Buckel’s seat in the House of Delegates. Buck Season Underway in Mountain State
West Virginia buck season got underway Monday and will last two weeks. Thousands of adults took off work and students were largely off school throughout the state. This is the first season in which hunters are limited in West Virginia to a limit of two bucks over the course of all of the hunting seasons. Hunters who killed two bucks with a bow are done for the year.

Drezdin Jose Delgado, 23 of Springfield, WV was served two (2) District Court Bench Warrants for Violation of Probation (VOP). The original conviction in case one was for Theft: $100 to under $1,500 and a 6-month suspended sentence with 18-months Supervised Probation was imposed. The second case was for the charge of CDS Administration Equipment Possession/Distribution where Delgado received an 18-month suspended sentenced with 18-months Supervised Probation. Residents and businesses are reporting a power outage in South Cumberland, near and below the railroad underpass. Potomac Edison outage map shows approximately 1200 without power. A crew has been dispatched to investigate the cause.
Supply Chain Issues Result In Drug Shortages
Reports of supply chain issues affecting drug availability seem higher in the United States than Canada, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association. An analysis used reports drawn from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and other sources and compared the reports to actual drug usage in both countries. South Waverly Terrace Arrest
On Monday, November 25th, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence on South Waverly Terrace for the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, it was learned that a male and female subject had been involved in a verbal altercation inside the residence. Maryland Lung Cancer Numbers Improving
Lung cancer continues to be the leading cause of cancer deaths in Maryland and across the U.S. but Maryland does have some positive news. The American Lung Association’s “State of Lung Cancer” report shows that Maryland ranks second among states for the lowest rate of non-smoking adults. The state is about even with the nation as a whole on screening.
