Polk Street Assault Arrest
On 7/25/2024 at approximately 6:30 PM the Cumberland City Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Polk Street for an assault. Upon arrival officers made contact with victim who advised Christian Harper had struck them in the face with the side of a BB gun. Officers observed the victim to be bleeding from the face and an ambulance was requested. The victim advised they currently have a protective order against Harper. Moose Curve Issues Hard To Address
A caller to WCBC’s Dave Norman program on Thursday expressed the concerns of many about truck traffic on Interstate 68 near the Moose Curve. Through the years, several trucks have either lost their brakes or lost control due to speeding through the tricky section of highway. New Allegany County Health Officer Introduced
The Allegany County Commissioners on Thursday announced the new health officer for the county. Gena Spear, who has been the interim health officer, will now be holding the position officially. Spear was appointed as interim in November of 2023 when Dr. June DeLizo resigned after just four months in the position. West Virginia Making Roadwork Progress
West Virginia Governor Jim Justice talked about paving projects taking place throughout the Mountain State during his press briefing on Thursday. This year’s supplemental budget appropriation signed in May will pay for 499 paving projects on more than 973 miles of road that aren’t covered by federal highway funds. The special funding is on top of approximately $190 million in federal highway funds. The drought watch the Maryland Department of Environment declared earlier this month has cautioned large parts of the state to reduce their water usage. The Office of State Fire Marshal is also reminding Marylanders of safety requirements when burning outdoors. Warrant Served
On 07/24/2024 at approximately 9:45 AM an officer from the Cumberland City Police Department observed Marian Black exit the District Court building on South Liberty Street. The officer contacted dispatch and learned that Mrs. Black had an active arrest warrant through the Maryland State Police Cumberland Barrack. As the warrant was confirmed Mrs. Black entered a Jeep and began to leave the area. The officer activated their emergency lights and siren but Mrs. Black did not stop and fled the area. Water service will be interrupted on Greene Street from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm today as city crew performs preparation work for the mainline replacement. The area affected includes Greene Street from Johnson Street to Washington Street.
Friendsville To Receive Funding For Library
U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen of Maryland announced Tuesday that the Senate Appropriations Committee has approved over seven million dollars for community projects in the state. Of local interest, a new library will be constructed in Friendsville in Garrett County as part of the Ruth Enlow Library System. The new building in Friendsville will replace a metal structure that has been used since 1970.
