Butler and Church Alleys Closed June 11 & 12
The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of First Energy, would like to notify the public that Butler Alley and Church Alley will be closed to thru traffic between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM on Tuesday, June 11th, and Wednesday, June 12th, to allow First Energy to perform work in the area. Signage will be in place to detour passenger vehicles around the alley closure. Individuals impacted by the alley closure may use the George Street parking garage. Maryland's Joint Republican Caucus issued the first “Moore Taxes, Moore Fees” report of the current four-year term. The Cumberland Police Department would like to remind citizens to lock their residences and vehicles to prevent thefts from occurring. Many burglaries and thefts occur as crimes of opportunity. People often leave items in plain view in vehicles with their doors unlocked. We strongly suggest not to do this. It is a good practice to always lock your homes and vehicles to prevent these crimes from occurring.
Gov. Moore administration increasing 338 taxes and fees
Maryland Democratic-led General Assembly passed increases in vehicle registration fees earlier this year. Unfortunately, these vehicle fee increases are just the start with new and increased taxes and fees under the Moore Administration. Rocky Gap Casino Sees Another Decrease In May
Maryland’s six casinos combined to generate $173 million dollars in revenue from slot machines and table games during May, an increase of 2.2% compared to May of 2023. Tax contributions to the state totaled $74 million for the month and the Education Trust Fund received $54 million. For May, Rocky Gap Casino generated almost $5 million, a decrease of $50,000 from this time last year.
