Comptroller Releases Statement On SNAP Decision

Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman issued a statement in response to a federal judge ordering the release of funds on Friday to support the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program during the federal shutdown. Lierman stated she is “deeply relieved by today’s court ruling requiring the federal government to fund SNAP benefits. This decision is a victory for the more than 680,000 Marylanders, including children, seniors, and working families, who rely on these benefits to put food on the table, and for the thousands of small businesses that depend on SNAP spending to sustain jobs and local economies.”

Earlier Darkness – Risk of Drowsy Driving

While most of us are looking forward to that extra hour of sleep that comes with the time change early Sunday morning, it does come with some risks. With the shifting forward of an hour, there will be more darkness in the early evening and reduced visibility for evening commuters. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety showed that almost 18% of all fatal crashes between 2017–2021 involved a drowsy driver.

Trespassing Arrest

On October 31st, 2025 at approximately 8:17 p.m., officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of Paca Street for a trespassing complaint. Upon arrival contact was made with William Allen McKnew. McKnew was advised that he had been given notice that he was barred from the property, and he was currently trespassing. McKnew advised the officers that he was aware that he was not to be on the premises. He was subsequently placed under arrest and issued a citation for the offense. Husband Charge in South Cumberland Search

Andrew Robert Roman, a 37-year-old from Cumberland, was arrested Thursday and charged with multiple offenses. During the investigation, police discovered evidence linked to previous incidents, which led to the charges against him. Roman appeared before a District Court Commissioner, who ordered him to be held without bond. He is facing several criminal charges, including: – Four (4) counts of First-Degree Assault – Six (6) counts of Second-Degree Assault – Three (3) counts of Reckless Endangerment – Four (4) counts related to Illegal Firearm Possession This case is still under investigation.  

Greenway Avenue Traffic Pattern Changes for Homecoming Game 2025

The Cumberland Police Department, in collaboration with the administrations of Allegany and Fort Hill High Schools, announces updated traffic patterns for the annual Homecoming Game on Saturday, November 1st, at Greenway Avenue Stadium. From 8:00 a.m. until one hour after the event concludes, vehicle traffic will be prohibited in front of the stadium. Drivers on Greenway Avenue will be redirected into the circle in front of Fort Hill High School for drop-offs and pick-ups. Brookfield Avenue will also be detoured, allowing only right turns to continue on Greenway Avenue away from the stadium. Police officers will be stationed at these…

Public Notice City Council to Meet

The Mayor and City Council of Cumberland will have a public work session on Tuesday at 4:30pm at City Hall, followed by the regular public meeting at 6:15pm. The public meeting will include the promotion of Lt. Eric Bonner to the position of Captain of the City of Cumberland Police Department.
