Union Rescue On Schedule For Move

Body Attachment for Child Support

On Monday, July 21st, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Darryl Samuel Harris III, 27, of Cumberland, MD. Harris was arrested on a Circuit Court body attachment issued by the Allegany County Circuit Court on June 27th, 2025 for child support. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance, where he was released on a $100 bond. Bench Warrant Served

On Monday, July 21st, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Haily Marie Moon, 20, of Cumberland, MD. Moon was arrested on an active Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court on April 21st, 2025. The warrant alleged Moon violated the terms and conditions of probation that had been placed upon due to a previous conviction of Theft less than $100.00. Moon was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance, where she was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. She is currently being held on a $500 bond. Fire Under Investigation

The Red Cross is assisting a Westernport family after a fire at their residence over the weekend.  One firefighter from Potomac Fire Company No. 2 sustained a minor injury at the Sunday morning blaze on Cosgrove Lane in Westernport. A preliminary investigation shows the fire started in the living room of the property.  Fifteen dogs and three cats either perished or remain missing from the fire. Property damage is estimated at $225,000.

Federal Losses Impact Maryland Jobs Report

Maryland’s newest jobs report for June showed a decline of 8,500 total jobs, including a net loss of 2,900 jobs in the public sector, which pushed the state’s unemployment rate up slightly, from 3.2% in May to 3.3% in June, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.  A large part of the employment decline was the loss of federal government jobs, Maryland’s largest single-month decrease in federal government jobs in almost three decades.

Ocean City Attempting to Enforce Canopy Rules

Officials say members of the Ocean City Beach Patrol (OCBP) continue to educate beachgoers on new tent and canopy restrictions.  Ocean City Emergency Services Director Joe Theobald told members of the Ocean City Police Commission this week that in the three weeks since the Beach Patrol began its awareness campaign, staff have interacted with at least 2,200 individuals and have tagged roughly 600 canopies left unattended on the beach before 10 a.m.
