Commissioners Support AES Federal Grant Request

The Allegany County Commissioners have signed a letter supporting the possible reopening of the AES Warrior Run Power Plant.  A request from Matt Ottaviani of AES to sign the letter was presented by County Administrator Jason Bennett. Moore Setting Up Supports For Marylanders

Consumer Advocates Point Out Windows 10 Security Issues

Consumer advocates in Maryland are calling on Microsoft to extend support for its Windows 10 software. Pulaski Street Burglary Arrest

On Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, officers with the Cumberland Police Department responded to a vacant residence in the 400 block of Pulaski St for the report of a breaking and entering. Upon arrival, officers observed an open exterior door on the property. During a subsequent search of the property, Lisa Flor Breiterman, 47, of Cumberland MD, was located inside. As a result, Breiterman was placed under arrest and transported for processing. She was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance where she was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. She is currently being held on $10,000…

Viewing and Funeral for Bob D’Atri Today

Local businessman Robert "Bob" D'Atri died last weekend and funeral services are today.  Viewing will be from noon until 3 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home on Virginia Avenue.  At 3 p.m., Pastor Bruce McBride will officiate at the memorial service.  The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Toys for Happiness.

**Adult Arrest** On Saturday, November 1st, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Heidi Storm Townsend, 20, of Cumberland MD. Townsend was arrested on an active Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court on October 29th, 2025. The warrant alleged Townsend failed to appear in court that day for a previous charge of second degree assault. Townsend was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance where she was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. Organization Plans Sixteen Foot Tall Monument for Next November

The Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization is planning to erect a 16 foot high monument next November at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery on the West Side.  The monument will mark the 250th birthday of the United States.  President Ed Taylor said there will also be a statue of St. Michael carved in Italy.

Court Records Indicate Domestic Abuse

According to the Cumberland Times-News, court records indicate that Jessica Roman was in an abusive relationship with her husband that caused her to flee her home and hide. Multiple counts of assault, reckless endangerment, and illegal firearms possession have been charged to Andrew Roman of Cumberland. Jessica Roman left the couple’s Mary Street home last Tuesday and was in hiding until discovered by police. Andrew Roman remains in police custody.
