Industrial Blvd. Theft Arrest
On Monday, November 3, 2025, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 1000 block of W. Industrial Blvd. for a theft. Police contacted the staff who reported that a female suspect shoplifted from the store. The suspect was located nearby and identified as Heather Jackson. After further investigation, Jackson was issued a criminal citation and released pending trial. ARRESTED: Heather Lynn Jackson AGE: 47 Cumberland, MD CHARGES: Theft less than $100
McClain Delaney Announces Re-Election Bid
Congresswoman for Maryland’s Sixth District, April McClain Delaney, has announced her intentions to run for her office again. Delaney is currently serving her first term in Washington. In a release, Delaney said she has been fighting for the safety, health, and wellbeing of everyone in her district. She has received endorsements in the race from Governor Wes Moore as well as all Democrats in the Maryland federal delegation. Delaney was in Cumberland Tuesday for a visit to the Western Maryland Food Bank.
Playoffs Set in Maryland for Upcoming Weekend
The Allegany Campers are the #2 seed in 1A West and will host #7 seed Clear Spring this Friday at 6 p.m. at Greenway Avenue Stadium. WCBC's coverage wll begin at 5 p.m. Mountain Ridge hosts Smithsburg and Northern hosts Southern. The number 1 seed, Fort Hill, has drawn a bye this weekend. WCBC's Satuirday Morning Quarterback will update all the contests and preview the following weekend Saturday at 9 a.m.
Washington Middle Briefly Evacuated Due To Gas Odor
An odor of gas in the area of Washington Middle School today prompted the brief evacuation of students and staff from the building. Maintenance personnel, along with the local gas company and emergency services made a check of the area and deemed it safe for students and staff to return to the school.
Jim Robey Achievement Scholarship Awarded
An Allegany College of Maryland student in the Multimedia Technology program has been awarded the WCBC Jim Robey Achievement Scholarship. Nathan Peterson of Cresaptown will receive $500 to cover tuition costs for the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters. WCBC has provided the scholarship in memory of the long-time radio personality since 2006. Peterson attended the Center for Career and Technical Education in Cresaptown and is set to graduate from ACM in Spring 2026.
Potomac Valley Hospital Now Offering Robotic Surgery for Knee and Hip
Potomac Valley Hospital is able to offer Mako SmartRobotics for total knee and hip replacements. The technology uses 3D images from a CT scan to create a virtual model of the patient’s joint. This helps surgeons plan the surgery in advance and provides more accuracy. It can also mean smaller incisions, less damage to surrounding tissue, less pain after surgery, and decreased recovery time for patients.
Arrest Warrants Arrest
On Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Braylin Nasir Rhodes, 19, of Cumberland MD. Rhodes was arrested on an active Arrest Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court for an incident that occurred earlier in the day on November 2nd. During that incident, the Cumberland Police responded to a W. Oldtown Rd residence for the report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female victim who advised that Rhodes had assaulted them after a verbal altercation, causing them minor injuries. Allegany County Public Schools is reminding families that schools will be open tomorrow, Tuesday 4, according to Public Information Officer Kris Kehrwald. The school system's policy is to remain open for mid-term election days and close for general elections.
McKay Cleared On Ethics Complaint
A trip to Israel by Senator Mike McKay and three other Maryland legislators was questioned in an ethics complaint with the Maryland General Assembly. The Council on American-Islamic Relations filed a complaint calling the “50 States-One Israel” conference propaganda that violated ethics laws. The General Assembly Ethics Committee sent notice to McKay that he has been cleared of any violations. Eirich Gives Shelter Update
Jodi Eirich, current director for the Allegany County Animal Shelter, was on hand at the county work session to give an operations update to commissioners. Eirich said that currently the census at the shelter is 124 dogs and 249 cats so they are overcrowded, and she would like to see smaller numbers to make care and housing easier… “I’m going to say 90 dogs, because I would really like to not have any dogs in crates.
