On Monday, November 3, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Nakota Durham.  The summons was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on November 3, 2025 at approximately 7:24 AM when police responded to a residence in the 200 block of Paca Street for a breaking and entering.  Durham reported that a suspect had entered her residence without her permission, assaulted her, and stole her property.  After further investigation, it was determined that Durham had provided false information to the police.  An application for charges was filed against Durham at the District Court of…

Apprehension of Timothy R. Deadrick

On November 3, 2025, the Allegany County Sheriff's Office received information from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office concerning an active arrest warrant for Mr. Deadrick. This warrant was issued following his arrest by an Allegany County Deputy on October 25, 2025, for possession of controlled dangerous substances, which resulted in a violation of probation warrant. The original conviction leading to the probation was for a homicide that occurred in Montgomery County, MD, in 1990.   Due to Mr. Deadrick's violent history and documented threats against law enforcement, the Sheriff's Special Operation Response Team (S.O.R.T) was deployed to locate and apprehend…

UPMC Doctor Says Processed Foods Encourage Colon Cancer

Increasing incidences of colon cancer are being seen worldwide. Legislators Rally In Support of Wind Projects

With Medicare’s annual open enrollment underway, consumer advocates are cautioning Maryland seniors to be alert for scams targeting people making health care coverage decisions. Maryland’s Healthcare Exchange is now open for 2026 Healthcare coverage plans. Enrollment takes place between November 1 and January 15. Large Wildfire in the area of Orleans

Allegany County Emergency Services are on the scene of large wildfire this morning in the area of Little Orleans, north of Interstate 68. Fire crews were dispatched just before 6 a.m. in the area of the Town Hill Bed and Breakfast with multiple companies alerted including Allegany, Morgan, Mineral and Fulton battling the fire. The preliminary report is that the fire is presently under control. 

Commissioners Approve More Emergency Procurements

At their most recent meeting, the Allegany County Commissioners were again faced with a list of projects for the flood-damaged areas of the county. The commissioners have stated that if no financial help cannot be found from the state of Maryland, they would have to go to the bond market for loans. WV Treasurer Returns Unclaimed Property To Mineral County

West Virginia State Treasurer Larry Pack has been across the state giving unclaimed property back to counties and was in Keyser recently to present checks to several county groups.  Over $10,000 was given to the Fort Ashby Volunteer Fire Company from dated checks not cashed. The Mineral County Sheriff received $9,000 from an online firearms auction and the county board of education received funds for $7,000 from refunds and other revenues. 

Senator Looking To Rainy Day Fund
