The missing person, Judith Mahoney has been located safe and unharmed. The police department would like to thank the public for their assistance with the missing person.

There is a crash scene in front of Cracker Barrel restaurant on Vocke Road. Reports indicate on vehicle on its side and one straddling the drainage ditch. Emergency crews are on the scene.

Update at 8:45AM… I68 in Cumberland, area of 43 MM has been reopened. Units are clearing at this time   Interstate 68 eastbound remains closed as well as one lane of westbound traffic. Motorists are urged to use Alternate Route 40 as a detour as traffic on the west side of Cumberland is heavily affected and backed up. This includes avoiding Braddock Road and Greene St areas as the Baltimore St bridge is closed for repairs. 

On Monday, May 6, 2024 at approximately 1:05 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business on Virginia Avenue for a trespassing complaint.  Police contacted the staff who reported that Tyler Westfall stole merchandise and left the store.  Westfall had been told not to return to the store earlier in the day.  Officers located Westfall and placed him under arrest.  Westfall was transported to police headquarters and issued two criminal citations.  He was then released pending trial. On Monday, May 6, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on David Miller.  The summons was issued as the result of a private citizen filing for charges against Miller at the District Court of Allegany County.  Miller signed for his copy of the summons and he was released pending trial. ARRESTED: David Charles Miller       AGE:  74           LaVale, MD CHARGES:  Assault-2nd Degree

On Monday, May 6, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Jesus Morales.  The warrant was issued as the result of Morales failing to appear in court.  He was originally charged with driving without a license.  Morales was arrested and transported to Central Booking.  He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and released on his personal recognizance. ARRESTED:  Jesus Laurentino Morales     AGE:  41        Keyser, WV  

Another Democrat has suspended his campaign for the Sixth District Congressional seat.  Peter Choharis (Co-harris) who has an international legal firm, entered the race in February. He has thrown his support behind Democratic candidate April McClain Delaney for the position.  Choharis talked with WCBC News about his platform in April at the Democratic Summit held at Rocky Gap…    

Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin announced over one million dollars in funds were approved in the second round of fiscal year 2024 funding packages. The money targets projects in Frederick and Garrett counties.  Garrett County is receiving $85,000 to repair the Safe Harbor Residential Crisis building so the facility may reopen to serve clients. Frederick County is receiving monies for a solar-charged micro-grid for their 911 center and conversion of a property into an African American Heritage Center.

Allegany Neighbors and Citizens For Home Owners Rights, or Anchor, continues to fight against the proposed location of wind turbines atop Dan’s Mountain in the county.  Anchor Spokesperson John Fetchero joined WCBC to talk about efforts to stop the project and says the group, headed by area resident Darlene Park, has been fighting for over a decade… Fetchero says that the public has not had an opportunity to voice its opinion on the project. Two Board of Zoning Appeals hearing are scheduled this month, but Fetchero is also investigating other avenues…
