On Tuesday April 16th, 2024 at approximately 2:12am, officers of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a foot patrol of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, when they contacted Elias Harr and Jessica Porter, to be inside a railroad car. They were located feet away from signage indicating the area was closed and had a large amount of property in the area. They were issued Criminal Citations for trespassing, and being on railroad equipment without authority, and were advised to remove their belongings and to vacate the area. Controlled Dangerous Substance Arrest
On Monday April 15th, 2024 at approximately 3:30 pm officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Jaylin Albright. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court stemming from a robbery that had occurred on April 12th, 2024 at approximately 9:25pm in the area of Boone Street, that is being investigated by the Cumberland Police Department and the Combined County Criminal Investigative Unit. During the service of the Arrest Warrant officers located a quantity of suspected crack cocaine. Arrest Warrant Served
On Monday April 15th, 2024, officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Richard Boudah. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court, stemming from an assault investigation on March 14th, 2024 at approximately 2:23pm. During the incident, officers responded to the 100 block of North Allegany Street for a reported disturbance involving a knife. Upon officer’s arrival they spoke with the victim who alleged that Boudah had brandished a knife and threatened them with it. Buckel Not Pleased With Pimlico Plan
A huge bailout of the Pimlico Racetrack may keep the Preakness in Baltimore, but the future of the state’s horseracing industry is up in the air. A last minute bill was presented to the Maryland General Assembly to find the approval and funding for the project. House Minority Leader Jason Buckel, who says he supports the horse farms in Maryland, said he had reasons for voting against the bill… Pimlico owners, the Stronach family, will turn the track over to Maryland, but will be compensated and Buckel says he has an issue with that…
Fairall Faces Federal Prison Time
Jacie Marie Fairall of Cumberland has admitted to a federal firearms charge. Fairall pled guilty to making a false statement in connection with the acquisition of a firearm. According to court documents, Fairall falsified a firearms form at a retailer in Ridgeley, West Virginia, and attempted to purchase a firearm for someone in exchange for drugs. Fairall is facing up to 10 years in federal prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
Civics Bee Winners Will Advance
The Allegany County Chamber of Commerce held its first Civics Bee Saturday in cooperation with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Civic Trust. Held at the Zimmer Theater at Allegany College, five area students competed for the chance to advance to the state level. Finishing in first was Myles Thomas, followed by sisters Abigail Ditto and Zoe Ditto. The three top finishers will move on to compete at the state level in June at Bowie State University.
ACM “Day of Giving” Set For This Wednesday
Allegany College of Maryland will hold its first Day of Giving starting at Noon on Wednesday, April 17 and ending 24 hours later. Crime Organizations Receive Indictments
Attorney General Anthony Brown announced Monday the indictments of 15 individuals linked to two separate crime organizations. Officials say the crime organizations are responsible for trafficking large amounts of fentanyl and cocaine in Baltimore City. They were also found in possession of 18 illegal firearms. Brown said that the amount of drugs involved and the threat to the community was very significant…
McKay Reviews Wins During General Assembly
The recent General Assembly session in Annapolis saw some wins for Allegany and Garrett Counties. Goucher Poll Hears Voter Concerns, Preferences
A recent Goucher Poll surveyed 800 registered voters in Maryland to pulse their concerns in the weeks ahead of Maryland’s Primary Election on May 14. Results showed voters rate public safety, economic development, and government spending high on their list of concerns that determine how they vote for a particular candidate. It appears Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Larry Hogan is on even ground with both Democratic candidates David Trone and Angela Alsobrooks.
