Board of Revenue Estimates Approves Revised Forecasts for 2026
The Maryland Board of Revenue Estimates (BRE) today voted to slightly adjust state revenue projections for Fiscal Year 2026 (FY 26) to $26.76 billion, a .34% increase from the previous Fiscal Year 2026 (FY 26) estimate. The approved forecast also increases revenues by almost $10 million during FY 27, making December’s estimate largely consistent with the September estimate. Overall, the forecast remains relatively unchanged from the September projections. The slight recalibration for FY 2026 is primarily driven by increased personal income tax collections and other miscellaneous revenue sources, including the estate tax and interest income. Slow Drip To Avoid Freezing Pipes
With the anticipation of frigid temperatures over the weekend, the City of Cumberland Water Department recommends that citizens and business owners consider leaving a small trickle of water running in a sink (about the size of a pencil) to avoid water line freezing. Most frozen water lines occur on service lines in and around residential homes and commercial buildings and are the responsibility of the property owner or occupant. Morrisey Updates On Guardsman
Governor Patrick Morrisey continues to keep the state of West Virginia updated on the recovery of National Guardsman Andrew Wolfe. Wolfe was shot while on duty in Washington D.C. along with Specialist Sarah Berkstrom who died from her injuries. The Governor said Wolfe’s family continues to ask for prayer… “From his mom, who’s reporting that he’s smiling, and he’s moving more of his right side, even sitting in a chair for a few hours. It’s been reported that his communication is improving, although not verbally.”
American Water Seeks WV Increase
American Water, the company in talks to buy Maryland Water Service that controls water for Bel Air residents, has asked the West Virginia Public Service Commission for a double-digit rate hike that would increase the company’s net annual water and wastewater revenue by $60 million dollars. The company says it need to rep lace aging infrastructure. It would increase customer bills in two steps, first by $11, then by $5.
Wreaths For The Fallen

Marylanders Most In Debt
According to a new survey by Lending Tree, Maryland residents increased their debt balances over 10% in 2025, the highest nationwide. Total non-mortgage debt increased to just over $41,000. It’s a slippery slope seen across the nation, according to ABC’s Cheri Preston… “18-and-a-half trillion dollars. That's how much Americans owed in the quarter that ended in September..that number, up nearly 200 billion from the previous quarter, and up four-point-four TRILLION since the beginning the pandemic. That number takes into account car loans, mortgages, credit card debt, and student loan debt.”
