Maryland’s upcoming Primary Election on May 14 has no local races involved, but will be an important stepping stone to the General Election in November since it is a Presidential election year. Fire Alarm on Reynolds St. Leads to Arrest
On April 20th, 2024 at approximately 10:20 pm, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 500 block of Baltimore Avenue for a reported destruction of property complaint. Upon officer’s arrival they spoke with the victim and observed damage to their residence. Evidence was located that identified the suspect to be Dakota Miller on the scene and they canvased the area. At approximately 10:40 pm officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Reynolds Street for a reported suspicious persons complaint. West Virginia Wildlife Center in French Creek to Reopen
The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) announced that the West Virginia State Wildlife Center in French Creek has reopened to the public after completing a federal relicensing process. "We faced numerous challenges and overcame several obstacles, but we fought tirelessly to reopen our center," Gov. Justice said. "It's truly amazing to see our doors open again, inviting visitors from around the world to experience one of West Virginia's treasured attractions." WV Students Get a Look at Tourism Industry
West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice spoke this week about a new program for West Virginia high school students. The state is encouraging high school students to sign up for the first-ever Governor’s School for Tourism, a 10-day summer academy to learn more about West Virginia’s growing tourism industry. The school starts June 20th and will take students across the state to experience tourism’s role in outdoor recreation, arts and culture, hospitality and lodging, and culinary arts.
Arrest Warrant Issued
On Saturday April 20th, 2024, officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Joseph Greenhawk. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court, when Joseph failed to appear for his trial on July 20th, 2023. Joseph was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was released on his own recognizance. Arrest: Joseph Howard Greenhawk, age 53, Cumberland Maryland. Charges: Failure to Appear.
Transgender Issues Continue at West Virginia Public Schools
Just a couple of days after a transgender middle school student won an appeals court ruling to allow her to compete on the track team, several athletes from a rival team stepped into the shot put against her and then stepped back out, declining to participate. The situation unfolded at the Harrison County Championships for middle schools on Thursday. OutKick, an outlet that covers sports from a conservative perspective, broke the story nationally with an article that included video of middle schoolers with their faces blurred stepping out of the shot put competition.
Allegany County Schools Appoint New Federal Programs Supervisor
Allegany County Public Schools’ Superintendent, Mr. Jeffrey Blank, has announced the appointment of the new Supervisor of Federal Programs, Mr. Daniel Clark. He will assume this role effective July 1, 2024. Mr. Clark has been an employee of Allegany County Public Schools for over 27 years. Mr. Clark has held several positions within the system, including Title I teacher, teaching grades four and five, and being a coordinating teacher. He has also held the administration positions of Assistant Principal at Mount Savage School and Principal of both George’s Creek Elementary and Northeast Elementary School.

Saturday, April 20th, 2024. ***Adult Arrest*** On Friday, April 19th, 2024, the Cumberland City Police responded to the 200 block of Springdale St for the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival on scene, Officers contacted several witnesses to the disturbance. All advised that a male subject had been on the property, yelling and throwing items at a car. They advised he left the scene prior to officer’s arrival. Flags To Half-Staff Saturday For Boonsboro Police Chief
Governor Wes Moore today announced that the U.S. flag and the Maryland flag will be lowered to half staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, April 20 for all state and federal buildings within Maryland to honor the life and service of Boonsboro Chief of Police Kevin Eugene Morgan.
