Clearway Signs PPA and Begins Construction on Dan’s Mountain
SAN FRANCISCO — Clearway Energy Group (“Clearway'') announced today that it closed $174 million in construction financing and has begun construction on Dan’s Mountain, a 55 MW wind farm in Allegany County, Maryland. Dan’s Mountain is the first new onshore wind farm to be constructed in Maryland in nearly ten years and is expected to increase the state’s wind energy generating capacity by nearly 30 percent. Governor Orders Flags to be Flown at Half Staff to Honor Chief Morgan
ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Wes Moore today announced that the U.S. flag and the Maryland flag will be lowered to half staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, April 20 for all state and federal buildings within Maryland to honor the life and service of Boonsboro Chief of Police Kevin Eugene Morgan. Comptroller Applauds Staff
Maryland State Comptroller Brooke Lierman is applauding her staff for the job they have done with the 2023 tax season. Lierman said that employees have opened thousands and thousands of envelopes from mail-in filers. To date, the state has processed 2.5 million returns and have sent out just under $2 billion in tax refunds.
Program Open Space Funding Approved
At Wednesday’s Maryland Board of Public Works meeting, Program Open Space Funding was approved for four projects in Allegany County including playground equipment for Constitution Park, playground surfacing at the Mason Complex, and upgrades for both Meadow Park and Piney Plains Park. The funding for the county came to over $355,000.
Theft Arrest
On Thursday, April 18, 2024 at approximately 9:43 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business on Greene Street for a shoplifting complaint. Officers contacted the suspect who was identified as William Wight. The staff reported that Wight and another suspect did not pay for items and placed them into Wight’s backpack. After further investigation, Wight was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. Wight was issued a criminal citation and released pending trial.
Bench Warrant Arrest
On Thursday, April 18, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Andrew Donaldson. The warrant was issued as the result of Donaldson failing to appear in court. He was originally charged with driving without a license. Donaldson was arrested and transported to Central Booking. He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on a $1,000 bond.

Elevator service at Cumberland City Hall is going to be interrupted starting April 22nd through May 31st for replacement. Tax and Utility Customers can make payments online at www.cumberlandmd.gov, a drop box outside of City Hall, a drive-by box at the Chamber of Commerce, or by phone with a credit card by calling 844-984-0459. Citizens coming to City Hall who are unable to use the stairs will be able to utilize a telephone located at the basement entry on Frederick Street to call for assistance.
