Paul Mullan Checks In With Dave

WCBC’s own Paul Mullan joined Dave Norman for a brief conversation Monday to bring listeners up to date on his health.  Mullan is currently a rehab patient at Genesis Fairland Center in Silver Spring.  Paul said he has had several bouts of pneumonia and the goal right now is to get him off the ventilator completely… When asked whether he sees a discharge date coming, Paul says he isn’t concentrating on that yet…

National Day Of Prayer Speaker/Events

Bench Warrants Arrest

On Monday, April 1st, 2024, the Cumberland City Police arrested Jessica Domini Durham, 38, of Cumberland MD. Durham was arrested on two active Bench Warrants issued by both the Allegany County District and Circuit Courts. The District Court Warrant alleged Durham failed to appear in court on May 22nd on traffic charges. The Circuit Court warrant alleged Durham violated the terms and conditions of her probation that had been placed upon her due to a previous conviction on assault charges. She was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where she was remanded to the Allegany County…

Cumberland City Fire Department extinguish rail car fire

Cumberland City Fire Department dispatch just after 12:10AM to CSX Transportation rail yard off of Virginia Avenue for a train car fire. Firefighters extinguish the fire in under 2 hours with no report of any serious injuries. CSX Rail yard operations were suspended during the response, two main lines on the north side of the Cumberland subdivision rail yard remained operational. Fire crews cleared the scene just after 2:30 a.m.

Northrop Expanding With NavSea Contract

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) is expanding the Naval Industrial Reserve Ordnance Plant at the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) in West Virginia. The company was recently awarded a $178 million contract from Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) to support the expansion. The investment will help to expand the site’s capacity through the construction of a new modular energetics facility. City of Cumberland Offers Upcoming “Mid-Town” Façade Grants

The “mid-town” façade improvement program will be taking applications beginning April 29th, 2024 through May 31st, 2024. Projects will be selected in June 2024. This program is for commercial properties within the City of Cumberland located in the “mid-town” district. This district would be N. Centre and N. Mechanic streets between Bedford St. and where the two streets connect at Southern States. Maximum Funding per Project: The maximum award that will be allocated will not exceed $10,000. Warrant Arrests – March 28

Thursday, March 28, 2024 Wesley David Barton of Frostburg, was arrested on a Circuit Court Body-Attachment for Failing to Appear for a Child Support Hearing. He was released after posting $100 cash bond. Ruby Caroline McCullough, 34 of Cumberland, was arrested on a Circuit Court Bench Warrant for Violating Pre-Trial Release on a Violation of Probation charge. Her original conviction was for Assault-2nd Degree where she received a 4-year jail term with all but 92-days suspended and 3-years of Supervised Probation. Home Distilling Now Legal In WV

Governor Jim Justice has signed into law legislation that will now officially allow West Virginia residents to distill their own alcohol at home.  If over the age of 21, a family of two can distill up to 10 gallons per year – the amount allowed depends on the size of the household.  Originally, the legislation had a limit of 50 gallons per year for a 2-person household – but that was scaled back by the West Virginia General Assembly.

Veterans Administration Has Record Health Enrollment

The Department of Veterans Affairs announced it has enrolled over 400,000 Veterans in VA health care over the past 365 days — 30% more than the previous year. This is the most yearly enrollees in the past five years at VA, and nearly a 50% increase over pandemic-level enrollment in 2020. Car Runs Into Credit Union
