Retention Rates, Transfer Student Enrollment at Frostburg State University on the Rise

While many colleges and universities across the nation are experiencing decreases in student enrollment, at Frostburg State University, enrollment among transfer students is on the rise with an 11.2 percent increase in transfer students from spring 2023 to spring 2024. Additionally, FSU boasts an 89.2 percent retention rate in first-time undergraduate students from fall 2023 to spring 2024. “We attribute the uptick in transfer enrollment to strong collaborations with our partner community colleges and our new nursing programs,” said Natalie Wagoner, director of Admissions at FSU. Hyundai, Kia Owners Can Get Steering Wheel Locks

Maryland State Police, in partnership with the Vehicle Theft Prevention Council, are providing free steering wheel locks to Hyundai and Kia owners in Maryland between March 2 and March 3, 2024. In order to receive the free lock, Maryland residents who own a Hyundai or a Kia that uses a physical key to start should bring their license and registration to the lobby of one of 14 Maryland State Police Barracks and receive it. McConnell Steps Down As Republican Leader

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell today announced on the Senate Floor today that he will step down from his leadership position in November. McConnell said he will continue serving as Senator from Kentucky – but will allow the party to elect an new leader for the chamber. McConnell is the longest serving leader in the Senate's history.

WV Treasurer Send Warnings To Financial Institutions

West Virginia State Treasurer Riley Moore has sent notice to six financial institutions warning them of potential inclusion on the state’s Restricted Financial Institution List after his Office made determination that the institutions appear to be engaged in boycotts of fossil fuel companies. Notices were delivered to financial institutions last week – the names were not released. The institutions will officially be placed on the list in 45 days unless they demonstrate that they are not engaged in a boycott of fossil fuel companies. 

New HUBZone In Allegany County

Governor Wes Moore approved the state’s petition for new HUBZone areas from the U.S. Small Business Administration. One new HUBZone is known as Census Tract 22 in Allegany County. The new HUBZone will bring significant economic development opportunities to one of Maryland’s most rural communities. Census Tract 22 covers Westernport, McCoole, Danville, Dawson, Luke and Franklin.  Businesses within HUBZone-designated areas can compete for federal set-aside contracts and receive preferential procurement consideration.

THEFT ARREST

On Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at approximately 5:46 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business on Park Street for a shoplifting complaint.  Police contacted the staff who reported that Shawn Holloway Jr. stole merchandise from the store.  After further investigation, Holloway was issued a criminal citation and released pending trial.   ARRESTED:  Shawn Dante Holloway Jr.            AGE:  29               Cumberland, MD CHARGES:  Theft less than $100

ARREST WARRANT SERVED

On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Brittany Loscig.  The warrant was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on February 22, 2024.  On this date at approximately 12:41 PM, officers responded to a business in the 200 block of Park Street for an assault.  Police contacted an employee who reported that Loscig became irate about an issue with the service and assaulted her.  Loscig had already left the area.  After further investigation, police filed for charges against Loscig at the District Court of Allegany County.  Loscig was arrested and transported…
