Resource Managers Available At Libraries
Resource Managers for community assistance will soon be able at two local libraries. In a joint project with the Department of Social Services, Allegany County Library locations in South Cumberland and Westernport will have weekly walk-in sessions available to help clients looking for different assistance programs. Gov. Justice announces MOU between DNR, Boy Scouts to promote education and conservation

On Saturday, July 8, 2023 at approximately 5:51 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 400 block of Maryland Avenue for two subjects passed out in a vehicle. Officers arrived and contacted the occupants. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and one of the occupants, Kailey Davis, was found to be in possession of suspected crack cocaine. Mechanic Street paving planned for Sunday night
North Mechanic Street will be paved between Market Street and Frederick Street tonight through Tuesday morning. Paving operations will occur between 7PM and 5AM. Traffic devices and signage will be in place to route vehicles through the paving operation. Traffic is expected to be restored during the day.

On Saturday July 8, 2023 Deputies responded to the area of the Bel Air Plaza in Cresaptown to make contact with a subject who initially claimed that he had been robbed. Deputies made contact with the subject but quickly learned that a robbery had not occurred. The subject claimed that someone was driving him from Baltimore, MD to Virginia, however, the driver abandoned the subject at a nearby convenience store when they stopped to use the bathroom. Fatal Single Vehicle Collision
On 7/8/23 at 3:34 hours S/Tpr. J. Bussard and Cpl Ciccarelli from the Hagerstown Barrack responded to the area of I-70 in the area of the 27 mile marker to investigate a single vehicle collision. Investigation revealed a silver Lexus WV registration 68Y429 was traveling westbound on I-70 when it left the roadway, traveled through the median, overturned and came to rest on the E/B shoulder of I-70. Friday Night Music Draws Huge Crowd Downtown
It was a gathering reminiscent of the heyday of Friday After Five. Hundreds of local music enthusiasts gathered on South Centre Street Friday evening to hear Queen City Funk and Soul. The concert lasted until 10 p.m. Downtown restaurants and bars were also busy. The recent trend of large crowds on North Centre Street also continued Friday evening.

BENCH WARRANTS SERVED On Friday, July 7, 2023 at approximately 3:04 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department located Samad Waller riding a bicycle in the Downtown area. Officers confirmed that Waller had three active bench warrants for his arrest. Police contacted Waller and advised him that he was under arrest. Waller resisted arrest and pulled away from the officers as they attempted to place him in hand restraints. Officers were eventually able to take him into custody. Memorial Avenue Assault
On Saturday, July 8, 2023 at approximately 2:31 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 100 block of Memorial Avenue for an assault. Officers arrived and contacted the involved parties. The alleged victim reported that she had been assaulted by Dantavius Adams Jr. She explained that Adams strangled her and would not let her leave the residence. Officers observed that the victim had sustained injuries.
