Alley Artist Summer Series Announced
There will even more music in downtown Cumberland this summer with the start of the Alley Artist Summer Series. Downtown Development Commission Executive Director Melinda Kelleher shared with WCBC how businesses have come together to enhance Merchant’s Alley during the downtown construction and create the event… Downtown Cumberland Business Association sponsored the live music every other Saturday in Merchants' Alley from 12 to 3PM. WV Seniors Can Receive Employment Help
By 2030, more than 73 million people age 65 and older – will be of retirement age, as the last of the Baby Boomer generation enters older adulthood. In West Virginia, the Senior Community Service Employment Program aims to help seniors who need to work to make ends meet find employment. Cox Did NOT File to Run for 6th District Congressional Seat
Dan Cox, who ran for Governor in Maryland in 2022 says he did NOT file to run for the 6th District Congress seat on Monday and wants to find out who did so in his name. After news outlets across the state announced that the filing had taken place, Cox said he was thinking about a run but absolutely had not filed the paperwork and would be contacting the Federal Elections Commission to find out how it happened. The filing information used the same post office box number in Frederick that Cox used for his gubernatorial bid. The 6th District…

City Implements New Property Tax System
This month, the City of Cumberland will implement iGOV property tax software. The City intends to mail the current year property tax bills to property owners during the week of July 10th. The invoice format has been configured to look substantially similar to what has been received in the past. The city’s current tax software has been transferred and verified into the iGOV software. The new software provides online access for property owners to view their current tax invoice, make ACH/credit card payments, set up paperless billing and manage their account. Online property searches can also be done.
Third Party for Hogan?
Maryland’s Former Governor may have finally kicked open the door- just a little – to a Presidential bid. Speaking on CNN, Larry Hogan said that he is not considering a run for the White House, but with no real front-runner emerging for either of the major political parties, a third-party candidate may be the answer. Hogan has ruled out running on the Republican ticket but has remained a long-time critic of Donald Trump.

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of July 5, 2023, there have been no deaths reported since last week’s dashboard update, with a total of 8,156 deaths attributed to COVID-19. West Virginians ages 6 months and older are recommended to stay up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccination. At this time, to stay up-to-date, one Omicron (bivalent) COVID-19 shot is recommended for most people ages 6 years and older. Queen City Drive DUI Arrest
On July 4th, 2023 at approximately 9:18 p.m. the Cumberland Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash, in the area of Queen City Drive. Upon arrival to the crash an officer observed the driver, Wayne Douglas Baugher, to be impaired by alcohol. Baugher was placed under arrest and issued citations. CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED
On July 3rd, 2023 the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Isaiah Jeremiah Carlton. The summons was issued as a result of an assault that occurred on July 1st, 2023. An investigation was conducted into the incident and Carlton failed to provide identification to avoid his prosecution in other pending cases. Officers were eventually able to identify Carlton and filed for additional charges at District Court. Carlton signed for his copy of the summons and was released pending trial at District Court. West Virginia Relo Package Working Well- Cumberland Hopes to Replicate
West Virginia is having success with their program to attract remote workers to the Mountain State. Through their “Ascend West Virginia” program, new residents can locate to specific community areas and receive $12,000 – $10,000 the first year and $2,000 the second year. Cumberland is working on a similar program, “Choose Cumberland” that would help new residents with moving costs and home renovations with a value of $20,000 per resident.
