Secretary of Transportation Deputy Comments on CSX Cooperation

It seems Cumberland is not the only city in Maryland having difficulties getting CSX Transportation to cooperate- as plans to expand a major railway tunnel in Baltimore have been put on hold. As a result of newly implemented operating plans, CSX is not moving forward with plans to expand the Howard Street Tunnel.   In Cumberland, officials have been trying for several years to get CSX to accept responsibility for several deteriorating railroad bridges; and more recently have had concerns with the company laying off dozens of CSX employees from the Cumberland railroad yard.  Maryland Deputy Secretary of Transportation James Ports in a recent meeting with area elected officials admitted that dealing with CSX is an uphill battle and there is little reason for optimism…
