On Friday, June 16th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police responded to the area of Springdale St for the report of a disturbance. Once on scene, officers contacted several witnesses to the alleged disturbance. They advised that a male subject had approached them and began to argue with them. They alleged the male subject then produced a large knife and began to threaten them and yell racial slurs at them. A video of the suspect was obtained from the witnesses and he was able to be located a short time later. The subject was found to be in possession of the knife.  As a result, Zachary Patrick Stewart, 36, of Cumberland MD was placed under arrest. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond.
