The two major teacher unions in West Virginia have merged into one organization. The American Federation of Teachers and the West Virginia Education Association combined to form a new group – Education West Virginia. The newly combined union plans to have a presence during the special session of the state legislature that Governor Patrick Morrisey has said he will be calling later this month. The group wants to address rising insurance costs that are outpacing teacher raises.
