The Juneteenth Memory march will be held this Saturday, June 17th, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Due to the number of citizens attending the Memory march, some changes to the traffic pattern will be implemented to ensure the safety of the citizens and at the same time provide motorists with access around the march to prevent any back-ups or delays. A change in the traffic routes listed below around the downtown area will be in effect one hour prior to the start of the march and will last until the conclusion of the march.
Motorists traveling south on Mechanic Street will be stopped for approximately 30 minutes once the Memory march starts at 10:30 a.m.
Motorists traveling north on Mechanic Street will be detoured onto Harrison Street to Queen City Drive to by-pass the closed portion of Mechanic Street. Motorists attempting to reach the west side of the city or West Virginia can do so by using Interstate 68 West and exiting at the Beall Street exit to Greene Street.
Motorists traveling west on Centre Street will be diverted toward Queen City Drive as Bedford Street in front of the Cumberland City Police Department will be closed to through traffic.
Motorists traveling north on Greene Street are encouraged to either turn left onto Washington Street or continue onto Cumberland Street. Baltimore Street @ Mechanic Street will be closed for approximately 30 minutes once the march starts at 10:30 a.m.
Motorists traveling on Liberty Street will not be allowed to turn onto Pershing Street and must continue toward Harrison Street.
Tractor trailer traffic should avoid the downtown area, using Queen City Drive as an alternate route.
The Cumberland Police Department requests that motorists pay close attention when traveling in the downtown area between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. due to the changes in the traffic patterns and increased pedestrian traffic.
