Under Hogan Tax Break Bill, Local Officials Must Lobby Manufacturers to Regions

Manufacturers creating new jobs in Maryland will receive tax breaks under a bill Governor Larry Hogan signed into law early this year- but Delegate Jason Buckel says it’s incumbent upon local officials to promote the concept and lobby new businesses to locate in the area.  The measure, approved during this year’s general assembly session, offers some relief from sales, property and income taxes in exchange for providing workers with skills training. The original bill applied to "distressed counties," including several on the Eastern Shore and in Western Maryland, as well as Baltimore.  With the tools now in place, the responsibility of spreading the word and attracting new business to the region falls on the shoulders of local elected officials…
