Although made effective September 7- a policy that prohibits spectators from bringing large bags or backpacks into Mountain Ridge and Greenway Avenue Stadium events is not yet officially on the books. According to a press release, the change in practice was not in response to any specific threat, but rather is an interim step in enhancing security measures to provide for the safety of students, staff, and the public. The Board of Education did approve a first reading of the policy during Tuesday’s public meeting, but it won’t become official until another vote is taken to approve the final measure at the end of the month. Board attorney Gary Hanna explained that even though the board hasn’t taken a final vote on the proposed policy, with the fall sports seasons underway and the stadiums in use, the superintendent does have the latitude to administratively enact the policy until official action is taken…
