ACLS Extending Library Hours

April 27th, 2021 by WCBC Radio

Beginning May 3, the Allegany County Library System will extend library hours to open from 11 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Thursday at the Frostburg, George’s Creek, South Cumberland, Washington Street, and Westernport Libraries. The LaVale Library remains closed for renovations.

The extension of the library hours comes as the next step in the library’s reopening plan that was developed last May. With the extended hours, the libraries will also reopen all of the children’s rooms as well as ease some of the safety constraints including the length of stay limitation.

Enhanced safety procedures will remain in place including the availability of sanitizing stations and the continuation of quarantining returning materials. Visitors will still be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing while at the libraries.

“We are thrilled to extend the hours of the libraries. Even before the pandemic closure, patrons were asking for more convenient and consistent hours across the library system and we are looking at this phased reopening as somewhat of a reset of our hours, establishing a new operating schedule that makes the libraries better suited to meet the needs of our communities,” explained ACLS Executive Director, John Taube.
