Allegany Co. Schools Heading Back Ahead Of Labor Day

Although many kids across Maryland won’t be heading back to school until next month, opening day in Allegany County is fast approaching.  Last year Maryland Governor Larry Hogan ordered public schools in the state to extend summer recess until after Labor Day beginning in 2017. Hogan said delaying the start of the school year would be good for businesses, families and the environment — because schools would not need to use air-conditioning for as many days in August. The executive order did contain a waiver clause for counties who routinely deal with weather challenges in the winter- and Allegany County was one of those receiving permission for a pre Labor Day start. School Superintendent Dr David Cox said students will report for the first day in a little more than two weeks…
