Captain Chuck Ternent will be named acting police chief in two weeks- and the interim title may be in place for a while as a permanent hire is not expected until early next year. Ternent, the longest serving member of the Cumberland Police Department and second in command under retiring Chief Charles Hinnant, has been tabbed as the interim and he will begin serving in that capacity November 1st.
