City Police Busy Yesterday

The following is the Cumberland City Police log for April 26th, 2016:

 

 

Shoplifting/CDS

On 04/26/16 at 1219pm Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to a business located in the 400blk of Maryland Ave in reference to a shoplifting complaint. Upon arrival Officers contacted store employees who advised they observed a white female take several items without paying for them and then leave the store. Employees were familiar with the subject at the time. A short time later the suspect returned to the store and officers contacted her there. She was identified as 38 year old Amy Roach of Cumberland. Roach was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to CPD where she was issued a criminal citation for theft under $100 and released from the scene.

While on the scene Officers contacted a passenger in the suspect vehicle identified as 46 year old Gregory Nelson of Cumberland. While speaking with Nelson officers observed CDS paraphernalia as well as suspect CDS. Nelson was placed under arrest where he was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and CDS not marijuana. He was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was released on his personal recognizance pending trial in District Court.

 

Assist Other Agency

On 04/26/16 at 5:44pm the Emergency Operations Center received a 911 call stating that a subject had fallen off a cliff located in the rear of Bishop Walsh School. Officers from the Cumberland Police Dept as well as members of the Cumberland Fire Department responded to the scene. Upon arrival it was learned that a 16 year old male had lost his balance while reaching for a tree branch causing him to fall off a rock and over the cliff. The male subject was conscious upon officer’s arrival. At this time members of the Cumberland Fire Dept, LaVale Volunteer Fire Dept, Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Dept, and the high angle rescue team assisted with providing care for the subject. The Maryland State Police Trooper 5 helicopter also responded to the scene. Once the subject was stable, a hoist operation took place. The male was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by Trooper 5 where he was listed in stable condition with non life threatening injuries.

 

 

Arrest Warrant Served

On 04/26/16 The Cumberland Police Dept served an Arrest Warrant on 38 year old James Glenn Porter of Cumberland. The warrant stems from a private citizen applying for charges through the District Court. Porter was placed under arrest on and transported to Police Headquarters where he was processed and served the warrant charging him with one count of second degree assault and disturbing the peace. Porter was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was held on a $6,000 bail pending his next court appearance.
