Commissioners Look to Work Session and Reducing $4.1M Funding Shortfall

The Allegany County Commissioners will conduct another budget work session today as efforts continue to reduce a $4.1 million in funding shortfall. In March the county conducted a series of budget hearings- with those requests totaling $94.9 million- as compared to projected revenues of $90.8 million. That leaves the county more than $4 million short. County officials met last week and will meet again this afternoon to identify possible solutions. The county officials have talked about either flat funding, or possibly allowing just 1% increases, for the agencies to balance the  budget.  Commissioner Creade Brodie Jr. said it’s obvious to him that the commissioners have to begin the practice of saying “no”…
