Commissioners Proclaim April 4th To Be Leo Mazzone Day

The Allegany County Commissioners publicly recognized Westernport native Leo Mazzone last week for his stellar professional baseball career- and in doing so, proclaimed the opening day of the 2016 baseball season, Monday, April 4, as Leo Mazzone Day in Allegany County. The recognition ceremony took place as part of the county’s public business meeting with a capacity crowd on hand to honor Leo.  Mazzone began his professional baseball career in 1967 and he ultimately became regarded as the premier pitching coach in Major League Baseball.  He worked with the Atlanta Braves' organization from 1979 to 2005 and was the pitching coach for the Baltimore Orioles from 2006 to 2007.  Leo said the more than 20 years he spent in the minor leagues paid off for him in a big way…
