Del McCoury Music, Scenic RR Excursions among Memorial Day Highlights

The Del McCoury Band will play a free concert at Canal Place on Memorial Day. The event will be from 2 to 5 p.m on May 31 with Bluegrass group Colebrook Road will be the opening act. The annual DelFest event normally is held on Memorial Day weekend at the Allegany County Fairgrounds but due to COVID-19 concerns the show was cancelled last year and pushed back this year  to Sept. 23-26. While the annual festival brings an estimated 30,000 to the Allegany County Fairgrounds- Del told WCBC News in a recent interview that he wasn’t certain what type of response the shows would receive when it all began back in 2008…

 

For the Memorial Day show at Canal Place, Charis Winery, Crabby Pig and Dig Deep Brewery will supply food and beverages with the shops being open for business.

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is back- kicking off the season with excursions throughout the holiday weekend.  The return of WMSR marks the first time the train has operated since the scenic railroad shut down in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The excursion will run from the Western Maryland Railway Station to the Frostburg Depot where riders can enjoy a 90-minute rest stop in Frostburg. Scenic railroad officials are adding an open-air car this year, one of five passenger cars utilized on this weekend’s excursion. Railroad CEO John Garner said repairs on the massive Baldwin No. 1309 steam engine, are continuing, so diesel-powered locomotives will be used to pull the train until further notice…
