UPDATED: 35 Year Old Man Dies in Morning Motorcycle Crash

MARYLAND STATE POLICE STATEMENT:

On today’s date, at 0855 hours the Cumberland Barrack responded to west bound I68 at Jeffries Road for a reported single vehicle motorcycle accident.  Upon arrival it was determined that the operator, 35 YOA male, was west bound I68 and lost control of the vehicle striking the guardrail and was then ejected from the vehicle and onto the roadway.  The Maryland State Police Crash Team responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.  Maryland State Highway Administration also assist with traffic.  The west bound lanes were closed for approximately 2 hours.

OFFICIAL RELEASE:

I-68 in the area of the Jeffries Road bridge remains closed after a vehicle crash involving a motorcycle earlier today, emergency service officials said. 

“Fire and EMS units were dispatched to the area of I-68 at the 47 mile marker for a reported crash involving a motorcycle at 8:50 a.m.,” Lt. Todd Bowman with the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services said. “Callers indicated the crash was serious.”

Fire department units from Bedford Road, Baltimore Pike, an ambulance from Bowman’s Addition, along with an Allegany County Department of Emergency Services supervisor responded to the crash. 

The single, male occupant was the only rider on the motorcycle. 

Maryland State Police and the Maryland State Highways remain on the scene, Bowman said. 

“Please avoid the area and use alternatives routes,” Bowman said.
