Former Mineral County employee charged with embezzlement

The Cumberaland Times News reports, a former employee of the Mineral County Circuit Clerk's Office was charged Friday with embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from the office where he once worked. Gary Duane Feaster, was accused of stealing between $65,000 and $87,000 over a three-year period. According to a news release issued by the state auditor's office. He also faces a charge of fraudulent schemes. Feaster resigned Jan. 9, 2019. Two days later, county officials issued a news release saying an employee had "made a voluntary self-disclosure of the details" of theft.

The Circuit Clerk's Office is authorized by statute to collect various fees, fines and costs associated with cases and disburse payments of deposits, such as bonds and restitution.

Some of the money taken was restitution payments intended for crime victims, according to the news release.
