Fort Hill Scholarship Established In Memory Of Artist

February 12th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Times News reports the Fort Hill Scholarship Fund has established a new scholarship to be awarded to a member of the 2016 graduating class later this year.

The Sansom Arts Scholarship, in memory of Bonnie Sansom Faith, will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 to a student who plans to major in the arts  — art, music, dance, drama, creative writing or culinary — or to teach the arts. The student must show financial need and maintain a grade point average of 3.2 or better; must have participated in the arts while at Fort Hill, such as choir, band, drama, set design and costumes, or designing layouts for the yearbook; and must have applied or been accepted to a Maryland college, university or junior college. If an arts recipient is not identified, the scholarship will be awarded to a student who wishes to be an elementary through high school teacher.

Faith was a member of the Fort Hill class of 1962 and a graduate of Frostburg State Teacher’s College class of 1966 with a teacher’s diploma majoring in art. Born April 8, 1944, she was the daughter of the Rev. William Raymond Sansom and Ruby Louise (Sachs) in Cumberland. Following a series of several strokes, she died Sept. 25, 2011.
