Halloween Parade Set For October 26th

August 26th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The 67th annual South Cumberland Halloween Parade sponsored by the South Cumberland Business and Civic Association Inc. is scheduled for Oct. 26.

The parade will begin at 7 p.m. and follow the same route as in past years as it moves along East First Street to Virginia Avenue and disbands on West Industrial Boulevard between Kirk Auto Sales and East Third Street.

Costumed mummers up to the age of 15 will be judged at 5:30 p.m. in Smith Park, located between Race and Seymour streets, and then will lead the parade. There is no registration for participating in the costume judging and children do not need to reside in Cumberland.

Candy and/or handouts will be allowed, but no throwing of these items will be permitted. Units participating in the parade will need to have members of their unit walk along the sides of the street to hand items directly to the parade spectators. If throwing of these items occur, parade participants will be removed from the parade.

Trailers longer than 35 feet will not be allowed in the parade due to the safety issues involved. The association strongly urges businesses, individuals, clubs, churches, etc. to decorate and enter floats in the parade. Any float/trailer used must have proper lighting for transporting the vehicle to and from the parade.

Applications to participate in the parade are being mailed to last year’s participants. New participants may contact Marsha Thomas, parade coordinator, at 301-722-6070.
