September 5th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

The number of Labor Day weekend travelers nationwide this year in the United States is expected to be the highest since 2008, just as the financial crisis took off, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic. The auto club is projecting that 35.5 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more for the holiday, a 1 percent increase over 2014 and the fourth consecutive year that the number has increased, a news release said. In Maryland, 733,000 people are expected to travel, which is the sixth consecutive year that number has increased. The increase comes even though the holiday is falling on Sept. 7, the latest possible date. Travel tends to decrease the later the holiday. AAA is projecting that it will aid more than 24,000 motorists who run into vehicular issues over the holiday, including 6,000 in Maryland.
